McCain returns to Arizona, won't vote on GOP tax bill: report

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is returning to Arizona and will miss the final vote on his party’s tax bill this week, CBS News reported Sunday.
McCain, who has been hospitalized at Walter Reed Medical Center suffering from the side effects of his treatment for brain cancer, reportedly left Washington, D.C., on Sunday to return home for the holidays.
This means he will not be in D.C. to vote on the GOP tax bill, which is expected to take place early in the week.
The Hill has reached out to McCain’s office for comment.

If McCain were to die or step down, he would be replaced by the governor. Candidates would be eligible to run for his seat in the next general election in ‘18 or ‘20, depending on when it happened. The winner would serve out the remainder of his term until 2022.

PHOENIX — Doctors found a second tumor in the brain of U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in the same place as the surgically-removed original growth.
The 81-year-old senator told People magazine he was feeling fine despite the second tumor that was discovered during chemotherapy.
“I’m getting treatment, and my progress is steady and good,†he told the publication. “People are saying, ‘I hope you can get over this.’ I believe I will.â€

Yup. I saw the same article. If he's replaced before 12/31, there will be two senate races next year. I'm pretty sure the Flake seat will be a Dem pickup, we have a lot of blue out here.

Karma would be that he die on the waiting list of the Arizona VA since as chairman of the United States Senate Committee on Armed Services he is partly responsible for the shoddy treatment our Veterans are receiving there.

I don't believe for a minute that he's being arrogant towards this disease; however, being optimistic is helpful in combating any disease whether terminal or not. With a second tumor developed,that means that the chemo/radiation didn't work and I don't think he'll be back to the Senate and he may not even make it till Christmas. A very sad time indeed for his family; sad that he chose to hunker down in the Senate instead of spending his last days with his family.

I will feel as choked up, teary eyed, and full of respect for this departed Senator and his machinations as I promised myself I would feel when Ted Kennedy FINALLY boarded the noon Velvet Telephone Booth out of my life and out of my Country's life.
And I have never looked back on my decision regarding Teddy for a heartbeat.

He could name anybody he wants, as long as he/she/it is a registered Republican (because McCainiac is, supposedly). Doug Ducey is a die-hard Trump supporter, so whoever he names it will be another Trump supporter.

Depends on how you see it. If he assumes room temperature before 12AM, January 1, then there wtill be a Republican Trump-lover replacement but only until January 2019, when the replacement from the November 2018 Election is sworn in. If he hangs on until 2018, then the replacement will be in 2020. Either will be a seat-warmer until 2022, which is the next cycle for that seat.
Left quite a mess to be cleaned up because he had to cling to his sinecure. I hope his balloon chested daughter can get a good ride out of this.

It’s not curable and it’s very aggressive. And he’s 81 years old. My brother was half that age, very strong, very stubborn, had a wonderful doctor and it took him in less than 2 years.
It’s time for McCain to resign, go home, make peace with his family and his Maker.
