I lost my precious Daisy today. She was a rat terrier/chihuahua mix. Damn, it hurts. I am so tired of hurting.

Oh dear, I am SO SORRY to hear of your loss, Lando.

A Parting Prayer

Dear Lord, please open your gates
 and call St. Francis
to come escort this beloved companion
 across the Rainbow Bridge.

Assign her to a place of honor,
for she has been a faithful servant
and has always done her best to please me.

Bless the hands that send her to you,
for they are doing so in love and compassion,
freeing her from pain and suffering.

Grant me the strength not to dwell on my loss.
Help me remember the details of her life
with the love she has shown me.
And grant me the courage to honor her
by sharing those memories with others.

Let her remember me as well
and let her know that I will always love her.
And when it's my time to pass over into your paradise,
please allow her to accompany those
 who will bring me home.

 Thank you, Lord,
for the gift of her companionship
and for the time we've had together.

 And thank you, Lord,
 for granting me the strength
to give her to you now.

 Amen.

So sorry, Lando. I know you said the time was near, doesn't make it easier to know it is coming.   034

That is so funny! My female cat is like that. I will give each their treats, and Lizzie will gobble hers down, all the while looking at Niall's. Then she will take Niall's and he will walk away. She does that with their food, too. She's so greedy!

Rest assured she will be waiting for you when your time comes. Don't be surprised if she doesn't move some of her favorite things around in your house for a while.

I used to buy into the stories about them aligncare.. but after watching Daddy on Pet Whisperer quietly train dog after dog I realized it's not the dog that's the problem, like with any fog it's the owners.

Didn't the Little Rascals have a pitbull as a pet? As for the dangers of pitbulls, if they do bite, it's a huge one. The same can be said for any breed of dog. I had two Dachshunds, Greta and Murphy. They were brother and sister. Greta loved everyone, and other animals. She was a charmer. Murphy loved people and kids, but hated animals, all of them. He attacked my sister's Dachshund, among the other dogs that came near him. I had to muzzle him when we went to the vet.

He was attacked by a stray dog. It was one helluva fight. Murphy was almost blinded, and had bites all over him. Even so, he went right back at it. It was so sad because he was such a loving dog to humans. He was also very fat, to the point he waddled. I put him on dog diets and exercised him. The vet said it was his metabolism, that he would just be fat. (Could the same happen to humans?)

The only dog we had disposition problems with was a rescue cocker that had been badly abused - had two broken ribs when we adopted him and always had nerve damage on the side even after he healed... we finally figured out the rabies vaccine negative affected him - long story, but eventually the vet even agreed - and caused him to have rage syndrome.  Most anyone else would have put him down, we didn't, but we were always very careful who he was around and warned people never to try and touch him.  I could not put a leash on him - my husband could.   He had to be muzzled for the vet and to be groomed we had to have him sedated.   I think it is a crime what people do to damage dogs....

The crew from a Coast Guard ice cutter have saved a dog that was frozen in Lake St. Clair in Michigan.

The ship was headed to search for any other vessels that could have been trapped in the frozen ice when they spotted a group of foxes surrounding something in the distance.

As they made their way closer to the site, they realized that a dog had become trapped in the layers of ice and was near death.

'It was cold, weak and tired. It may have been out there for a couple of days or so,' Chief Petty Officer Alan Haraf told The Detroit Free Press.

'They noticed three burrows the dog tried to dig for itself for protection. They said the paws were bleeding and the nails were pretty much down to nothing.'

Three petty officers on board the ice cutter, called the Bristol Bay, packed on their cold weather gear and rescued the dog.

The dog, which the crew members nicknamed 'Lucky', was wearing a collar and harness but did not have a tag.

Once the dog was brought back on board using a stretcher, he was warmed up by the officers and fed some chicken breast.

The ice breaker headed back to Detroit from there and one of the officers took it to a local veterinarian.

The vet was able to determine that the dog was a mixed breed and about 11 years old.

It still remains unclear how the dog got out onto the ice and how he became stuck.

'Hopefully he'll find a home. He's such a darn good dog,' Petty Officer Brian Essler told The Detroit Free Press.
