Revealed: The dog breeds that really ARE man's best friend - so is YOURS on the list?

    Researchers analysed 11,000 dogs across 300 breeds for human sociability
    Bull type terriers, teacup dogs and golden retrievers are 'man's best friends'

They're often described as man's best friend, having been loyal pets for up to 40,000 years.

But a new study suggests that when it comes to getting on with humans, not all dog breeds are equal.

Researchers from the University of Helsinki have revealed the dog breeds with the highest and lowest levels of human sociability.

Their findings suggest that bull type terriers, teacup dogs and golden retrievers are officially 'man's best friends'.

In contrast, livestock guardian dogs, Asian primitive breeds and primitive sighthounds are least enamoured in our company.

The team collected an enormous behavioural survey dataset containing information on 11,000 dogs across 300 different breeds.

These were were then categorised into 52 groups.

Jack Russell Terriers are on the friendly list?

That dog looks stressed, not enjoying the owners moment at all.

@Kamaji

Ahhh,a "Sylvester Cat"!

I have one,too. Found her abandoned in my yard and trembling with  fear when I came home one day. VERY tame,and I managed to just pick her up with  my  hands and take her into the house.

Had her for 3 or 4 years now,and she still looks like a half-grown kitten. VERY tame with humans,but is still uncomfortable around other cats.

One time a year or so ago I blacked out and fell face-forward in the hardwood floor. My last thought before blacking out was "What is the floor doing so close to my nose?" When I woke up some unknown time later,my forehead and nose were bleeding,and this cat and the big tom were sitting there looking at me.

Called my ex's sister,who happens to be one of my best friends,and asked her if she would come here to help me get ready  to go to the hospital in case I blacked out again. Since I was alone in my house when this happened,I was,of course,nekkid.

She showed up with my ex,and they pretty much took over.

My cats normally run and hide when I have company,but not that night. My ex and her sister helped me off the floor and sat me down on the couch,and got me dressed. This little Sylvester cat jumped up on the arm of the  couch  to sit and watch me.

When the rescue squad got here and rolled the gurney towards me,she got between me and them,fluffed up her fur,and .started snarling and growling at them. I had never seen or even heard of a cat doing that before. I had to call her to jump up in my lap and pet her until she calmed down.

She is rarely very far from me at any given time,and even likes to get up on the back of the couch and "groom" what little hair I have.

I can't imagine for the life of me why someone would abandon a pet cat as nice and tame as her. She had even already been spayed when I found her.

Finally got to the hospital maybe 45 miles away,had to sit in the waiting room for an hour or so before I was even seen,and then the docs told me I was lucky to get there so soon because some major blood vessel in my stomach was bleeding internally,and if I had gotten there a couple of hours later I would have probably died from loss of blood to my stomach.

Both of the wimmins followed the ambulance to the hospital,and once I came to again,went shopping to get me a hoody and a few other nice  things to have.

All this once  again proves my theory that it is better to  be lucky than it is to be smart.

BTW,I had my ex contact a friend of mine that lives much closer to my house than she does,and I got him to come to the house and shop to feed and water the cats every day,and to clean the litter boxes when needed.

@Cyber Liberty

And I know,AND appreciate it.

Of course,the flip side of this is I will do anything within my power to help any  of them that might need help.

THAT is the way  life and friendships are supposed to work.
