@Right_in_Virginia

Why? The dog obviously has no interest in hurting the child,he is merely keeping him "in his place".

Chances are he has been trained to babysit the child.

I was told that when I was an infant we had a collie that would babysit me. My mother would let me play in the yard while she was outside doing things,and the collie would keep an eye on me. He would allow me to crawl as far as the sidewalk,but once I got there he would pick me up by my diaper and carry me back to the center of the yard and sit me down,and then sit or lay down himself to keep an eye on me.
WE had a Cockapoo when I was younger. One day the neighbors youngest (3-5 years old) came over to the hose while I was doing yard work. Shadow was soaking up the sun. Any time that child got within 3 feet of the sidewalk Shadow would herd him back  to the center of the yard.
In a time of universal deceit - telling the truth is a revolutionary act.
More than any other time in history, mankind faces a crossroads. One path leads to despair and utter hopelessness. The other, to total extinction. Let us pray we have the wisdom to choose correctly.-Woody Allen
If God invented marathons to keep people from doing anything more stupid, the triathlon must have taken him completely by surprise.

@Kamaji

I will go out on a limb here and guess she is looking for a home for her and her kitten or kittens.

Feed her outside again for a few more days to see if she shows up with anymore kittens.

Once you are sure there will be no kittens abandoned,take her and them inside and give them a home until you can find homes for them.

She is obviously tame and has been abandoned.

We all have wonderful stories about our dogs @verga ... but in this specific circumstace I would have stopped the playing  There's too much clutter and sharp edged furniture  Accidents happen ----- and my first responsibility is to make sure my toddler's head isn't slammed into a coffee table.

@Kamaji

And some of you human mothers think it is a nightmare trying to keep control of YOUR kids,just try to imagine the horrors SHE faces every day.

Although I suspect that MOST wild animals would know better than to go after THOSE chillruns. That mama could be a real bitch to try to deal with.
