SpaceX Starship Integrated Flight Test 5
« on: June 06, 2024, 10:23:52 pm »
SpaceX Starship integrated flight test 5 (IFT-5) will be the fifth integrated flight test of a prototype Starship launch vehicle. The prototype vehicles planned to be flown are the Ship 30 upper-stage and Booster 12.

SpaceX is expecting to perform the flight test in late June. In April 2024, Musk stated that the flight may involve a catch of the Super Heavy booster with the tower, if B11's 'virtual tower' landing is successful during IFT-4. On June 6th, after IFT-4, he reiterated that.

@Teslaconomics

Starship 5 will be launching in ~1 month & the booster will be caught w/ mechazilla arms (instead of splashing down to the ocean). This will extremely difficult to execute, but if there’s one team to do it, it’s SpaceX.

Ship 30 has been mostly surrounded by scaffolding, to allow workers access to replace its heat shield with an additional ablative layer and stronger heat shield tiles on top of that.

I am really looking forward to this next flight. If they can do what they have planned it will be epic!
