RFK Jr. Voters Span MAGA to Liberal—Making Them an Election Wildcard

SEDONA, Ariz.—Jody Hendryx, Gaia Lamb and Dale Young are voters here supporting Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s independent bid for the presidency. Their political pasts couldn’t be more different.

Hendryx, 67 years old, voted for Donald Trump in 2020. Lamb, 81, cast a ballot for Joe Biden. And Young, 69, said he hasn’t been registered to vote for 50 years—but decided to come out of the political shadows to vote for Kennedy this fall.

The trio show why the effect of Kennedy’s presence in the presidential race is so hard to predict, and why he is causing headaches for both the Democratic president and his opponent, the Republican former president.

The problem for both Trump and Biden: It isn’t exactly clear who Kennedy hurts more, largely because of his eclectic mix of supporters. Most polls of swing states and national surveys show Kennedy pulls slightly more support from Trump, but here in Arizona, a recent Wall Street Journal poll found he snapped up voters equally from both candidates.

Trump led Biden 39% to 34% in the Journal’s recent Arizona poll with Kennedy and other third-party candidates included. Some 13% of voters here said they planned to support Kennedy, the poll found. That was his second-highest level of support among seven competitive states the Journal polled....................

That may be, but I still think RFK Jr. is going to make more of an impact on this election than anticipated.

I can't imagine anyone who had been solid for Mr. Trump these last 3 1/2 years would jump ship now for Bobby Jr.

That makes no sense -- what does RFKjr offer that traditional-minded folks can get their support around...?

He's the only one who is actually against the public health deep state. And unlike most of the GOP, I still remember 2020.

That said, everything else about Kennedy is a nonstarter so I am likely sitting this one out.

Well, I haven't been solid for Trump these last 3 1/2 years but there is no way I would vote for the lying anti second amendment not so stealth socialist

I think there are a lot of disenchanted working class men who are not ideological one way or the other.  They tend to trust unions, they liked Reagan and they liked FDR. They were key to the success of John Fetterman in Pennsylvania in 2022. I have met many of these types, in fact I play golf with some of them. For the most part, they love Trump. I have not seen much crossover to RFKj and do not expect to.

If there is any doubt as to what RFKj's political orientation is, look no further than his running mate.  His platform is based on government REFORM not government DISMANTLING, and that is a big distinction. RFKj has many plans to expand the welfare state with new regulations and agencies in a variety of areas including medicine, housing and food. In other words, most of the stuff that is critical to our daily lives.
