Iranian influence network members scored 10 Biden White House visits

At least three reported members of a covert Iranian government-controlled influence network visited the Biden White House on numerous occasions for meetings with senior U.S. officials, records show.

The trio, Dina Esfandiary and Ali Vaez of the global International Crisis Group think tank, plus now-Pentagon official Ariane Tabatabai, was outed through the release of leaked Iranian government emails last year as being linked to a network called the Iran Experts Initiative, a project of Iran’s foreign ministry that helped push Tehran talking points in the United States and Europe.

According to a Washington Examiner review of White House visitor logs, Esfandiary, Vaez, and Tabatabai headed to the White House a combined 10 times between April 2022 and December 2023 — a fact that foreign policy experts, watchdog groups, and congressional sources say shows the Biden administration has granted those with concerning Iran ties apparent access to the halls of power.

Esfandiary, Vaez, and Tabatabai share connections to Robert Malley, President Joe Biden‘s special envoy to Iran who was placed on unpaid leave in June of last year amid a federal investigation into his handling of classified information, Semafor reported. Malley, who saw his security clearance revoked, was the Obama administration’s lead negotiator in 2015 for the heavily scrutinized Iran nuclear deal that waived sanctions for Iran — the leading state sponsor of terrorism.

Republicans lawmakers have uncovered “troubling allegations” that President Biden’s suspended special envoy to Iran, Robert Malley, stored classified material on his personal email account and cellphone — which was later accessed by a “hostile cyber actor.”

The top Republicans on the Senate Foreign Relations and House Foreign Affairs committee on Monday asked the State Department to confirm the allegations against Malley, who was quietly placed on unpaid leave last June and had his security clearance suspended amid a State Department investigation reportedly centered on his potential mishandling of classified information.

A congressional probe into President Biden’s suspended special envoy to Iran, Robert Malley, has uncovered evidence that the State Department official may have shared classified material with people outside the US government.

The evidence found by Republican lawmakers indicates that Malley, who was quietly placed on unpaid leave last June and had his security clearance suspended two months prior, disseminated sensitive documents with allies of his in order to “advance his diplomatic efforts” related to Tehran, people briefed on the investigation told Semafor.

GOP lawmakers have learned that Malley transferred about a dozen documents, including some marked “sensitive” and “classified,” to his personal devices while tasked with leading the Biden administration’s diplomatic relations with the US adversary, according to the outlet.

The documents reportedly included “detailed notes” of his interactions with Iranian officials in the months before his suspension and material related to the US government’s response to the 2022 Mahsa Amini protests in Iran. ...

Iranian hackers sent sensitive information stolen from the Trump campaign to President Joe Biden’s campaign earlier this summer, U.S. investigators said Wednesday.

The emails were sent in June and July to individuals “associated with the Biden campaign” and “contained an excerpt taken from stolen, non-public material from former President Trump’s campaign,” the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the FBI and CISA said in a statement.

The Iranians have also continued trying to leak “non-public” Trump campaign material to media organizations since June, the agencies said.The latest disclosure shed new light on the myriad tactics Iran has employed to damage the Trump campaign, and how persistent it remains despite U.S. officials calling out its first attempt to leak stolen campaign documents this August.
