Glenn Greenwald Rants About Brazil's Alexandre De Moraes' Authoritarian Censorship Regime Citing The New York Times: "The Brazilian left hated him until he took on the role of chief censor and began censoring, apparently, almost everybody who the Brazilian left regarded as their enemy.  Especially, Bolsanaro supporters. Including ordering members of Congress arrested and journalists having their homes searched and seized, and now he's a hero to the Brazilian left."  ...

🚨 #BREAKING: ELON MUSK TO PROVIDE FREE STARLINK FOR SCHOOLS IF BRAZILIAN GOV. TERMINATES CONTRACT

The Brazilian government is willing to allow SCHOOLCHILDREN to suffer simply to get back at @elonmusk for standing up for free speech.

Starlink provides internet for countless schools and students who would otherwise have ZERO access to internet, and blocking Starlink would essentially remove their connection to the outside world.  ...WHY WOULD THE GOVERNMENT TAKE IT AWAY?

Oh, that’s right: They don’t care about you or your children.

How very creepy-looking Brazilian judge Alexandre de Moraes got into power: de Moraes' predecessor, Teori Zavascki, perished in a mysterious plane crash following his authorization of an investigation into dozens of politicians for corruption in 2017 as part of "Operation Car Wash."  ...

Diego de Lima Gualda, the administrator of the Brazilian arm of X, has reportedly resigned amid threats of imprisonment by judge Alexandre de Moraes. Gualda was previously given instructions from Elon Musk to uncensor and unsuspend Brazilian users, and to release X's secret correspondence with the court.

Brazilian courts have historically gone after the local administrators in charge of a social media platform's operations in the country when they were unable to get at their owners.

Had he done so, he would be subject to the charge of criminal disobedience, which carries a prison sentence of up to 6 months, or non-compliance with a court order, which ranges from 3 months to 2 years. In addition, he would be subject to innumerable fines and even temporary imprisonment without a charge.

Brazilian lawyers who spoke to Folha de Sao Paolo say that it's easier for the courts to hold a Brazilian admin accountable than Musk, but that the courts can't really do anything to stop X from reactivating any of the suspended accounts despite the court order -- they just don't have any sort of international jurisdiction to police X.

Had HIllary won in 2016 and the left won the USSC IMO that was probably the next step for us.
