Las Vegas Sands Renews Push for Casino Gambling in Texas
« on: April 08, 2024, 11:43:08 am »
Texas Scorecard by  Daniel Greer   | April 5, 2024

After setbacks in the primary, Sands is dusting off an old trade group and even older talking points to lobby for a blank check from Texans in 2025.

Las Vegas Sands Corp., the casino and resort company, is again attempting to expand gambling in Texas by re-upping the Texas Destination Resort Alliance, a special interest front group it created to back its unsuccessful bid to legalize casinos during the 2023 legislative session.

The alliance is circulating a petition to legalize casino-style gaming. Gambling expansion does not appear to be a problem or an issue for Texans, according to the latest polling from the University of Texas at Austin.

During the 2023 session, Sands and its lobbyists made some progress in the Texas House, convincing part of the Republican caucus to join Democrats in voting for a casino measure.

The Republican Party of Texas platform currently opposes any gambling expansion.

Seems everything sleazy in Texas nowadays begins and ends with Dade Phelan.  Too bad, I am not in his district.  I'd break the switch in the runff by pulling the lever so hard against him.

I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.

I guess there must be something wrong with me, but I don't have an issue with casinos. You can't save people from themselves. They'll just go to Oklahoma or Louisiana. Why not keep that money here?  We already have the lottery and parimutuel betting. The beautiful racetrack in Grand Prairie is about to close (if it hasn't ) because of the lack of slots. I was pretty deeply involved in getting parimutuel in Tx. The world didn't stop turning because of it and  I don't see an influx of Mafia.

I don't personally care for casinos. Too loud and I'm not a gambler at heart (unless it's the ponies and I've gotten away from that), so this isn't a personal wish.

If this is about Phelan...I get it. But it could be a big selling point for his reelection.

This will really pizz off the Indians (feather not dot).
Can Texas really afford another Linnville/Victoria type raid, like the one in 1840?  Linnville was wiped out.  Of course the Rangers caught up with them the next day and killed them all.

No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.
