Trump says he’s the ‘Modern Day Nelson Mandela’ because of Manhattan judge’s gag order

.

Former President Donald Trump compared his legal troubles to that of former South African President Nelson Mandela.

Trump took to Truth Social Saturday to bemoan the gag order issued to him by Manhattan Judge Juan M. Merchan. This gag order is related to Trump’s hush money case, where notable witnesses include former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen and porn star Stormy Daniels.

“It is so bad what he is trying to get away with – How was he even chosen for this case??? I heard he fought like hell to get it, and all of the rest of them also,” Trump wrote of Merchan. “If this Partisan Hack wants to put me in the ‘clink’ for speaking the open and obvious TRUTH, I will gladly become a Modern Day Nelson Mandela — It will be my GREAT HONOR.”

Mandela served 27 years in prison following his campaign to overthrow the apartheid government. Upon his release, he served a single term as the country’s president.

“We have to Save our Country from these Political Operatives masquerading as Prosecutors and Judges, and I am willing to sacrifice my Freedom for that worthy cause,” Trump wrote. “We are a Failing Nation, but on November 5th, we will become a Great Nation again. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Just because his opponents use inapt comparisons (e.g. Hitler) to attack him is no reason for Trump to use inapt comparisons in his own defense.

He is such a lout!
And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.

If Trump continues to run his mouth he's going to lose and lose bigly.  Not that people will be voting for Biden, but a whole lot of people are just not going to vote as neither one of them is appealing.

His last 'stint' was selling bibles -- that hasn't gone over too well with the Evangelical leaders.

His narcissism is a problem.

It's going to take more than holding rallies, selling bibles and sneakers for him to win the election.  He hasn't changed course and is doing the same things that he's been doing and last election he lost -- stolen or not -- he lost.

The only thing Trump does is keep his sycophant peons lapping it all up.  And him and they thinking that = overwhelming popularity in the nation at large.

To be fair, Trump's pretty darn good at keeping his haters all riled up.

Interesting that you label all who don't agree with Trump's policies or actions as haters.  Many have taken off their orange colored glasses and realize that he's become quite unhinged and his narcissistic personality continues to be open to scrutiny.

Look at you trying to defend Trump's latest debacle. He should have stuck to selling his gilded sneakers. I agree with some of the Evangelical leaders; the troubling aspect here is […] the marketing of it, the Americanization of it, the "Trump-ification" of it.

So, exactly how is it that I'm spreading hate for Jesus?  Careful, how you answer that @Right_in_Virginia

The modern day Nelson Mandela line was stupid.  But I'm kind of enjoying the rest of it, and don't have an issue with him insulting these judges as directly as possible.  The Democrats clearly are using these cases against him, and he has a right to defend himself on the campaign trail, to attack the cases as politicized garbage, and to call the judges corrupt.

If a political candidate can't call out what he sees as a corrupt legal system, then that's a much bigger problem than any of the things Trump did for which he has been charged.

I simply do not understand your angst over a bible endorsement --- especially for one that has been around for a while and includes the fundamentals of our American Republic.  Young voters are moving toward Trump big time.  Imagine if he ends up pointing even a few hundred of them to their first bibles and the Constitution.   Feels like a good to me.

But, we can't have this, because you hate the man.

Which is pretty damn stupid of him.  Because riled-up haters will make a point of going to the polls in November to vote against Trump.  (See:  2020)

It's inexplicable to me.

Absolutely hate Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.  They're clearly enemies of the Republic as Founded.

Also hate the Democrat Party for what it's become today.  Democrat Socialists...Fascists...Totalitarians.

They hate a Donald J. Trump a billionaire Populist and Capitalist who wants to concentrate on building the U.S.A back to the greatness we all felt growing up...because he went along with the response to Covid-19 and embraced crazy Stimulus Spending which increased the nation's debt.

...oh, and also because he's crude and rude in dealing with adversaries foreign and domestic.

They HATE him so much they will withhold their vote and waste it, based upon their own principles.  The uncanny need to virtue signal, no matter the resulting outcome.

I'm done with all of them!  {spit}

Nobody here hates Trump. Trump hasn’t done anything to me personally that would make me hate him. The “hate Trump”  line is used by his supporters when they know they can’t defend Trump intellectually on the issues. It’s the same tactic the left uses when the scream “racism” when they can’t defend their arguments

But he made a lot of mistakes during his tenure and he’s promising to double down on those mistakes

Donald Trump entered office with an economy that was already growing. He left with office with an economy in shambles and laid the groundwork for inflation. And he still thinks he did a great job with his Covid response. That tells me he will follow the same formula should another pandemic hit. And the debt was already growing even before Covid

I don’t know why it’s hard for MAGAs to grasp the concept that if you print trillions and trillions of dollars and send it out in the economy, inflation is the result

He wants more tariffs despite the fact that his first ones triggered a trade war and  hurt the economy. Those tariffs are always passed on to the consumer. And throw those higher prices on top of inflation.

Neither Trump nor Biden have any realistic plans to deal with the issues facing us. But on the economy, when looking at what both men want to do, Biden is slightly better than Trump. Biden isn’t proposing protectionist tariffs and isn’t proposing the screwy idea of pressuring the Federal Reserve to drop interest rates at a time when Americans are reaping the “benefits” of the Trump/Biden inflationary economy.  Dropping interest rates right now would horribly punish savers

And yet, there are still his supporters that can’t understand why many of us don’t want to vote for that.
I’m not obligated to vote for any candidate just to satisfy his supporters emotional need for a win.  You mentioned something about outcomes in your post. That’s right. Policies and issues and the resulting outcomes and consequences do matter

“He’s not Biden” isn’t enough. This election is, to me, more about simply owning the other side than really fixing the issues that face us. When it comes to Trump, we have record and reality vs the fantasy his voters have created

I have read right here that Donald Trump had to go along with all that Covid spending otherwise Democrats would have been mad at him. I also see the same argument when it comes to spending and more specifically entitlement reform. Why should I vote for somebody who is more aligned with Democrats on the biggest issue threatening this country’s long-term fiscal and economic health?

The only issue that Trump has any credibility on over Joe Biden is the border.

Should he win, I would love to be proven wrong. But, based on current proposals and past history, I won’t be

I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

It is hardly a waste to refrain from voting for that to which one is adamantly opposed. I will not be coerced into voting *FOR* big government coming from the Right. It is against every fiber of my being. It is against the very precepts by which I was joined to the Right. There will NEVER be a reason to lay down the sword and allow liberalism from the Right. It's why I didn't vote for Romney, Precisely. And he is to the Right of Tumpy.
