All the People Who Care About the Planet Already Bought Electric Cars

In the first quarter of 2024, GM sold 16,425 EVs. In the first quarter of 2025, GM will need to sell 250,000.

April 3, 2024 by Daniel Greenfield

The “$60,000 Electric Junkers to Save the Planet” industry is running into trouble. Tesla sales are down and GM is running into trouble with its lineup of electric junkers. Especially since with the Bolt gone, it has no more remotely affordable EVs. And the people who can drop a year’s salary to save the planet are buying luxury brands.

GM’s U.S. dealers sold 594,233 new vehicles in the first three months of 2024 compared with 603,208 a year ago… GM sold 16,425 electric vehicles in the United States, down from 20,000 in the first quarter of 2023, a milestone that was supported by sales of the since-discontinued electric Chevrolet Bolt

“Our brands are all performing well. GM gained retail market share year-over-year with strong mix and pricing, our inventories are in good shape heading into the spring, and production and deliveries of Ultium Platform EVs are rising, led by the Cadillac LYRIQ,” said Marissa West, GM senior vice president and president of North America, in a statement. “We’re on plan.”

Stelanis (Crysler, Dodge, RAM and Jeep), French owned, doubled down on this $hit, even more than GM.

I'm not per se against electric vehicles. I use a lot of electric appliances and whatnot. If a practical EV ever arrives, I will give it a sincere look.
But it appears we are not at that magic age the people pushing (and mostly failing) electric vehicles on the public wish it to be.
This looks like another case of people on the left wishing something were a reality whether the public at large wants it or not.
And it sure looks like the public at large is not interested in purchasing an electric car just to satisfy the wishes of the virtue signaling clowns who are trying to jam them down our throats.

What part of "They are too damned expensive!" do the  bureaucrats not get?
For unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death — if you’re unvaccinated — for themselves, their families, and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm. Sloe Joe Biteme 12/16
I will NOT comply.

@goatprairie

That is the perfect attitude to have. Let the free market decide, not have fake-green shoved down our throats with options taken off the table. Don't have the government play games with propping up one end of the scale at taxpayer's expense.

If it is a good option, the public will come to it.

No, all the people who (1) suffer from the delusion that electric vehicles will help solve the "problem" of "global warming" and (2) can afford one have bought electric cars.

Plenty of us care about the planet and do not suffer from this delusion.

And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.

If the battery was a cartridge or series of cartridges that could be quickly traded out for freshly charged ones... When the batteries are at least somewhat ubiquitous - swapable,...

When your tool (car) is broken or you want a newer one, and the new one is crazy cheap to buy without the batteries, and you can just take your batts out of the old one and stuff em in the new one...

When you already have a pickup, but you can buy a jeep for hardly nothing and easily stuff the pickup batteries into the jeep to go camping and put them back in the pickup when you get home...

THAT whole paradigm is close to why those battery driven tools blew the market up.

Stellantis FIRED 94% of FCA's US workers! ~ Butter Da Insider

With the latest round of layoffs, Stellantis has less than 6,000 US employees!

Stellantis ever since 2021 has fired the majority of FCA senior staff and then made it's way down to now engineers. First UAW temp employees was fired through text message on their day off and now Stellantis mandated a work from home to fire 400 more employees. FCA was estimated to have around 90,000 employees in the US but 3 years since the merger, less than 6,000 remain. With Carlos Tavares and Mike Manley claiming the merger would save jobs, they didn't tell employees it would be the European jobs saved and not the American ones. With a few CEO's left on American soil like Dodge and Ram boss Tim Kuniskis, will these brands survive? Or will they go up in smoke like the EV trend?
