Former Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard is reportedly on the list of vice presidential options for former President Donald Trump and independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Gabbard represented the state’s 2nd Congressional District for four terms and ran for president in 2020 as a Democrat before leaving the Democratic Party in 2022. Since then, Gabbard has identified herself as an independent and has criticized the Biden administration, often taking conservative stances on matters such as abortion and transgender rights. Most recently, she has garnered attention from Kennedy and Trump, who have teased various vice presidential picks within the last month.   

Sources close to the deliberations told NBC News that Kennedy met Gabbard in Hawaii in January when he was campaigning and that her name is on a short list of his possible contenders. Mark Lonabaugh, a former top strategist for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who worked closely with Gabbard during his 2016 presidential campaign, said he believes she would be better suited to appear on a ticket with Kennedy for ideological reasons.

However, sources said that while Gabbard would have seriously considered being Kennedy’s running mate, she is more interested in the possibility of being considered for a Trump ticket.
