Why getting more female troops into Special Operations will take time

As recently released data from the military services has shown, the participation of women in elite special operations roles ― and even entry into the training pipeline for such roles ― remains a rarity some eight years after these roles were first opened.

The military is starting to take notice: a wide-ranging Army special operations study released in 2023 highlighted barriers to service, from ill-fitting body armor to “benevolent sexism” keeping women on the sidelines.

In September 2023, the congressionally appointed Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services unanimously approved a recommendation, still pending, that the Secretary of Defense should establish a working group focused on women in the special operations community “to provide strategic oversight on and direction of current integration plans and challenges, metrics, lessons learned, and best practices.”

This, the committee wrote in its recommendation, “would enhance recruitment, integration, growth, and retention of women in SOF.”

The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.

DUHHHHH!

They just aren't strong enough, and even IF they were, the prime job of Special Operations teams is to go into more primitive foreign nations and teach then how to fight a guerilla war against an oppressive government.
These people will NOT accept training from females because they are mostly "macho  men".

Thanks to that bitch Miss Miley, and her "still in the closet" protectors in the Senate, the House, and the US Military.

There ARE roles in covert operations that are not only ideal for women, but no other group is as qualified for them.

Let's face it,if you are running a covert mission in a hostile country, who attracts more attention,a healthy, military age male walking  down the street alone,or that sale male walking down the street arm in army with an attractive female?

NOBODY in their right mind would ever doubt the courage, intelligence, and dedication of females, but they just do NOT have the body strength of males, and body strength IS vital for MOST operational jobs.

BTW,let's not even get started on courage, aggressiveness,or the violence of a thoroughly pissed off woman. When they lose control, they REALLY lose control and you damn  near have to shoot them to stop them.

Not that *I* know anything about pissed-off women,of course. I'm just going by what other people tell me.

Mixing females into active teams in harms way is an utter mistake.

@roamer_1

They would save more lives if they just dissolved SF and eliminated the teams.

RULE NUMBER 1 for ANY new member to ANY team is "You MUST be strong enough that if it becomes necessary you can pick up a wounded team member and run to safety with them."

That IS the absolute MINIMUM standard for acceptance on ANY team.

How many females have any of you ever known that can pick up and toss a 200 lb team member wearing all their battle gear across their backs, and run like the wind with him?

And this is NOT theory. It IS going to happen at one point or another with  active teams.

It is also why you see smaller guys get assigned to teams with smaller guys, and bigger guys getting assigned to teams manned by bigger guys.

AND,in SF,it is the TEAM LEADER that determines if a replacement gets assigned to his team or not,and there is NO discussion about this. His team, his rules.

Add to that the sex - And sex will be a thing, because it always is when available in high stress situations... How that gets figured out among the various parties involved... Now you have at least one member asserting dominance over the woman, at least one member favoring protecting the woman as a mate... What happens to the team if that woman gets captured (with all that means)? Will they (or at least one of them) go out of their way to go get her?

It's a hot mess, it is.

I don't know what is worse than a hot mess, but that is what it is.

BTW,somebody in a position to  find out needs  to track the career of Miss Miley, and  OUT all of her "rabbis" that made sure she graduated from West Point, and ended up as the top US Army General.

ALL those people need to be in prison for life for treason.

Coast Guard’s workforce shortage expected to worsen in 2024

The Coast Guard’s personnel shortage is expected to grow worse in 2024, impacting the service’s ability to respond to a hurricane or an oil spill or other major disaster, a service commandant told lawmakers on Wednesday.

The maritime force is operating with a deficit of about 4,800 members, or nearly 10% of its workforce, and anticipates an even larger shortfall this year due to struggles with recruiting, said Vice Adm. Paul Thomas, deputy commandant for mission support for the Coast Guard.

Thomas told a subpanel of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee that day-to-day operations, such as search and rescue, remain intact but the Coast Guard’s capacity to mount a mass response to a large-scale emergency will degrade as its ranks decrease.
