The Victims of Open Borders: Laken Riley Becomes Latest American Woman Allegedly Killed by Illegal Alien

John Binder 25 Feb 2024

Laken Hope Riley, the 22-year-old Augusta University nursing student allegedly killed by an illegal alien released into the United States, is the latest American woman to fall victim to the federal government’s inability to enforce immigration law.

Laken Riley

On February 22, Riley went for a morning jog along the University of Georgia’s campus in Athens, where she had transferred from in 2023. When she did not return, her roommate called the police who started a search for Riley.

Riley graduated from the University of Georgia and had started nursing school at Augusta University’s Athens campus. Riley had been an avid runner since her time in high school when she ran cross country in Woodstock, Georgia.

Only hours after Riley left for her morning run, her body was found in a wooded area near Lake Herrick. Police said Riley’s body showed visible injuries. The following day, police arrested 26-year-old Jose Antonio Ibarra, an illegal alien from Venezuela.

Ibarra first crossed the U.S.-Mexico border in September 2022. As part of President Joe Biden’s expansive Catch and Release network, where millions have been released, Ibarra was freed into the U.S. interior with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials citing a lack of detention space to keep him locked up.

According to DHS sources, Ibarra should have been deported from the U.S. in September 2023 when he was arrested in Queens, New York, for injuring a child under the age of 17. Instead, thanks to the city’s sanctuary policy, Ibarra was released from jail rather than being turned over to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency.

Ibarra is now charged with Riley’s kidnapping and murder as well as aggravated battery, aggravated assault, hindering a 911 call, and concealing the death of a person.

Republicans Say Joe Biden Has 'Blood' on His Hands After Laken Riley Death

Gabe Whisnant  |  Feb 24, 2024 at 6:20 PM EST  |  Updated Feb 25, 2024 at 11:37 AM

A host of Republicans, including presidential candidate Nikki Haley, are blaming President Joe Biden's policies for the death of 22-year-old nursing student Laken Riley.

Jose Antonio Ibarra, a 26-year-old Venezuelan migrant, has been arrested on suspicion of murdering Riley in Athens, Georgia. On Friday, UGA Police Chief Jeffrey Clark said Ibarra was not a U.S. citizen, adding, "right now, I don't know his full status."

Georgia Rep. Mike Collins, a Republican from Athens, posted on X, formerly Twitter, that Biden and U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas were responsible for Riley's death. He also blamed Athens' sanctuary city status.

"The blood of Laken Riley is on the hands of Joe Biden, Alejandro Mayorkas, and the government of Athens-Clarke County," Collins posted on X. "The Venezuelan suspect in Laken Riley's murder is one of millions of illegal aliens that the Biden administration has released into this country to be welcomed with open arms by Democrat-run sanctuary jurisdictions. This man had no business being in America, much less the UGA community to brutally murder this young American while she was on a run."  .  .  .

If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

Athens-Clarke County declared 'Sanctuary' status in 2017:

Athens-Clarke police chief addresses immigration at town hall meeting

Red Denty  |  May 10, 2017  |  1:25 pm

Athens-Clarke County police will not cooperate with any federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement effort to round up local residents based on their immigration status, Chief Scott Freeman said at a Tuesday town hall meeting at Gaines Elementary School.

“We are not immigration enforcement. That is a federal responsibility,” Freeman said with regard to his department’s interaction with federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel.

“We want anybody, regardless of their legal status, to be able to identify themselves and seek assistance without hesitation, anxiety or fear,” Freeman continued, before pledging that the police department will not investigate an individual’s citizenship status unless it relates to an alleged crime, and will not cooperate or assist ICE with any “round-ups” based on immigration status.  .  .  .
