Live Thread>> New Hampshire Primary 2024
« on: January 23, 2024, 02:50:03 pm »
By Alyce McFadden

    Jan. 23, 2024, 7:35 a.m. ET

The very first results in the New Hampshire primary became available within minutes of midnight on Tuesday.

But beyond Dixville Notch, where polling opened at midnight for the small town’s six registered voters and closed soon afterward, voting locations in most of the rest of the state will be open until 7 p.m. Eastern time. Initial results will most likely become available soon after that.

David Scanlan, the secretary of state, said he expected that most votes would be counted on Tuesday night. News media outlets are likely to call the race before all ballots are counted, whenever a winner becomes apparent.

The Associated Press does not expect to make a call before 8 p.m., when the last polls close. But in 2016, its call in the Republican primaries came right at 8 p.m.

Results in the Democratic race might come in later because it will take election workers extra time to count the write-in votes for President Biden, who is not on the ballot after New Hampshire fought his decision to push the state back on the party’s nominating calendar. The results may be slightly delayed, but state officials expect them to be counted before the end of the night.

“Several of the larger communities have recruited extra volunteers to help with the process, so we are not expecting huge delays,” said Anna Sventek, the communications director for the New Hampshire Department of State.

For Haley to take ‘New Hampshire Gold,’ she must do well in these cities

All eyes are on former Gov Nikki Haley's performances in Manchester, Nashua, Concord and Bedford
Rémy Numa By Rémy Numa Fox News

Published January 23, 2024 8:39am EST

The last Fox News Power Rankings spelled out the criteria for the remaining Republican candidates to make this race competitive.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis had to take "Iowa Silver" and outperform vote share expectations.

In the end, the Florida governor achieved second place, but he was never going to shake up this race with 21% of the vote.

For former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, the criteria is simple: she must win New Hampshire.

Taking gold will not be easy. Former President Trump continues to beat her in polls, and despite the state’s large bloc of "undeclared" voters, remember that the former president won the Granite State in his first presidential run.

If Haley wins, the pathway runs through the townships below.

Highly populated areas: Manchester, Nashua, Concord, and Bedford

Lapsed Republicans, Biden voters — here are the people who showed up to Nikki Haley’s New Hampshire rally
January 22, 2024 | Mary Lou Masters

Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley held a campaign rally in Salem, New Hampshire, the night before the state’s first-in-the-nation primary on Tuesday.

Some of the voters that Haley attracted were registered Republicans who don’t always vote for the GOP, supporters of President Joe Biden, and “Never Trumpers,” according to conversations the Daily Caller News Foundation had with nine attendees from New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts.

“I’m a left-leaning Independent, but I’m pro-life — so neither party appeals to me,” Mark Croteau, a 64-year-old Massachusetts resident who grew up in Nashua, New Hampshire, told the DCNF. “I find the Democrats disgusting and the Republicans repulsive.”

SALEM, New Hampshire — Hundreds of voters packed themselves into a Nikki Haley campaign rally on the eve of the first-in-the-nation primary Monday. Among the crowd was Mary Ellen Stergiou, a 62-year-old registered Democrat who plans on voting for Haley in the primary in protest to Trump, and due to President Joe Biden’s absence from the ballot.

“I feel better voting for her than for him,” Stergiou told the Daily Caller News Foundation in the company of her husband, Chuck, an undeclared voter. “We have just seen this disintegration of cultural norms, of common decency, respect, kindness. It is terrifying to me, as a mother, as a father, we have seen it disappear. And I always say [Trump] opened a Pandora’s box.”

Stergiou, who is a retired healthcare worker from Manchester, told the DCNF that one of her top issues is “women’s health.” The registered Democrat, who described herself as an Independent voter, said she voted for Biden in 2020 and Hillary Clinton in 2016.

That puts Trump's final average in the RealClearPolitics tracker at +19.3 percent. For Haley to win, she would have to pull off one of the greatest upsets in primary history.

The woke Left thinks they are so clever and genius that they're going to manipulate things right under our noses and do another McCain, but rushing in Rats and liberal Republicans into NH to pad the results is only going to give them false hope that the empty hype is going to gain Haley traction.

Problem is McCain had a weak field to contend with, we already know the depth and breadth of Trump's support. She will get roasted in SC.
The Republic is lost.

Well that settles it.  The race is over.  Trump should bow out now and give Haley his endorsement.

The DNC Media campaign to anoint McCain as the GOP candidate began in 2000.  They knew he was a sure loser.  But 'W' messed that up for them.

The GOP nomination is Trump's to lose.

It's difficult to win a MAGA primary campaign if you're not the real Donald Trump.

Even if Haley loses I think she'll continue on - she's hoping to at least win her home state.  If she loses .... well, her political career will be over.

Not a Trump fan, but I so hope that Haley loses in both NH and SC.

What tonight's primaries mean for the delegate race

Tonight, there are 22 delegates on the line for Republicans in New Hampshire.

Trump and Haley will take delegates home in proportion with their vote. In other words, a candidate who wins about half the vote can expect about 11 delegates.

There’s a small difference between New Hampshire’s rules and what we saw in Iowa – candidates must get at least 10% of the vote to win any delegates at all.

But with Trump and Haley the only notable candidates left in this race, that’s not likely to matter.

Democrats are voting in an “advisory primary,” the result of a spat between the DNC and the Granite State.

That means no delegates are at stake.

The results might have symbolic meaning. Biden’s chief rival Rep. Dean Phillips has invested heavily here. If he outperforms expectations, we could see a lot more of him this primary season.

What does it mean if Donald Trump wins New Hampshire tonight?

Former President Donald Trump's likely win in the New Hampshire Republican primary tonight could mean a number of things, and will probably depend on the margin of his victory.

A commanding win would only solidify his frontrunner status, and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley would likely face increased calls to end her bid for the GOP nomination.

If Haley surges and limits Trump to a marginal victory, the race could continue through the Nevada caucuses on Feb. 8 and the South Carolina primary on Feb. 24.

If Haley stays competitive and remains in the race, the contest between the two would then head to Michigan and other states.

CNN Exit Poll: NH Voters Split over Legitimacy of Biden’s 2020 Election

The poll found that “roughly half said they believed that President Joe Biden’s victory over Trump four years ago was legitimate,” CNN reported.

The poll found that “roughly half said they believed that President Joe Biden’s victory over Trump four years ago was legitimate,” CNN reported.

CNN did not provide a breakdown of the poll results.

The poll also found that Biden’s open border and his sluggish economy are the top issues in New Hampshire. Both of those issues as a top concern in the Granite State also reflect in nationwide polling.
Abortion and foreign policy followed as less important than immigration and the economy, CNN reported:

Most, about 7 in 10 voters, describe the state of the economy as not so good or poor. Roughly half say that they’d like to see most undocumented immigrants in the US deported to the countries they came from. In a contrast from Iowa, a majority of voters in New Hampshire say they’d oppose a federal ban on most or all abortions.

Voters are divided on the role of the US abroad, with roughly 4 in 10 saying they’d like the country to take a less active role, about 3 in 10 a more active role, and the rest saying it should remain roughly the same.

https://www.foxnews.com/live-news/everything-you-need-to-follow-the-new-hampshire-primaries-today

About two-thirds of respondents said they were “conservative,” while 25 percent called themselves “very conservative.” Only one-third said they were “moderate.”

The exit poll sampled 1,565 New Hampshire’s Republican presidential primary voters across 40 different polling places with a 4.0 margin of error.

Holding steady?  How's that even possible? My neighbors are a young couple with 2 tiny children.  He has a decent job as a construction supervisor.  They can barely and I mean barely afford to feed their family.  Of course they can't afford any health insurance.  And people are holding steady?  Seriously?

There is no way that we are better off than we were at the end of Trump's administration. Inflation, soaring gas prices, empty shelves, ridiculous food prices .... my wallet is wearing very thin.

I was flabbergasted today -- I went to pick up a package of Oreo cookies today - $6.99!  Are you flipping kidding me??  No thanks.
