How could President Biden not notice his defense secretary was missing?
By Post Editorial Board
Published Jan. 7, 2024, 7:10 p.m. ET

With US forces under regular attack across the Mideast and the Navy actively engaged with Houthi forces in the Red Sea, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was out of commission in the hospital from Monday on.

Worse, no one told the White House; worse yet, neither President Biden nor National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan noticed.

Not until the Pentagon let Sullivan know on Thursday.

Anyone thinking that the nation is well-led despite Biden’s blatant feebleness better think again: Austin and his deputies ignored the law here, while Sullivan was plainly asleep at the switch.

Again, with American forces regularly under fire, and our friends in Ukraine and Israel fully at war with Russia and Hamas.

Oh, and the public was kept in the dark until Friday.

Failed Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin should be fired immediately for improper professional conduct and dereliction of duty. He has been missing for one week, and nobody, including his boss, Crooked Joe Biden, had a clue as to where he was, or might be. He has performed poorly, and should have been dismissed long ago, along with “General” Mark Milley, for many reasons, but in particular the catastrophic surrender in Afghanistan, perhaps the most embarrassing moment in the history of our Country!

Trump is correct. However, we all know that nothing will be done.  Trump needs to look in the mirror though; he appointed Milley as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during his administration.

Wasn't it Trump who promoted "General" Milley?  He was put in his current position by Trump, not Biden.

Biden can't find his way to the bathroom

Why would he notice his Defense Secretary was missing?
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

There is a complete disconnect between Trump's actions and Trump's rhetoric.  A disconnect that is shared by his ardent supporters.

Either the SecDef doesn't matter much so his absence is of no consequence to our defense posture, or he matters, in which case hiding his absence from everyone is a good way of hiding it from our adversaries.
And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.

  • I'll make Mincemeat out of 'em"
I keep hearing things to effect that Austin "ignored the law" in not notifying the appropriate people that we was incapacitated, but I haven't seen anyone indicated exactly which law.

Anyone know?

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
