On Wednesday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas stated that there are record numbers of people coming to the southern border because there has been “the greatest number of displaced people, not only at our southern border, not only in the Western Hemisphere, but across the globe” And “the effects of climate change, poverty, increasing levels of authoritarianism” are the root causes of this.

Co-host Willie Geist asked, “As you know, Mr. Secretary, Border Patrol, in the month of December, processed more migrants entering the United States illegally than any month in the history of that agency. Why is that happening? How do you explain it?”

Mayorkas responded, “So, we are seeing the greatest number of displaced people, not only at our southern border, not only in the Western Hemisphere, but across the globe. I am involved in bilateral and multilateral meetings with my counterparts from foreign countries in Europe, in Asia, in the Indo-Pacific, all over the world. And migration, the challenge of displaced people, is a subject that comes up in every single conversation. We have the effects of climate change, poverty, increasing levels of authoritarianism. There are very many challenges that are at the root cause of the displacement of people around the world.”

Mayorkas: Allowing Asylum Seekers to Wait in U.S. Is ‘Pull Factor,’ We Won’t Do Remain in Mexico

On Wednesday’s broadcast of “CNN This Morning,” Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas stated that the fact that people can stay in the United States for years before their asylum claims are heard in immigration court is “a pull factor,” but there’s nothing more they can do on the executive side to decrease the amount of people coming to the border, including reinstating the Remain in Mexico policy.

Mayorkas said, “We need additional asylum officers to really accelerate the asylum adjudication process, so people are not waiting six years before they receive their results, which is, in effect, a pull factor, the fact that people can stay here for six years before their asylum case is adjudicated is a powerful example of how broken our immigration system is and has been for so long.”

Later, co-host Phil Mattingly asked, “When we talk about numbers, ABC News is reporting there were over 300,000 border encounters in December. CNN has reported over 225,000 were apprehensions from illegal crossings. These are record numbers. This has been a continuous trend line right now. Is there anything on the executive authority side that you haven’t done yet that you think you can that can stem this?”

We have record numbers of illegal immigrants at the US Border because American civilian institutions are failing.

List of Failures:

1.) DHS should be securing the borders; not being concierges for illegal migrants entering the US.

2.) US State Department has ignored the Western Hemisphere and abandoned the Monroe Doctrine.

3.) Intelligence agencies should be working with locals on the ground to overthrow Venezauela's government.

4.) The Commerce Department should be developing a supply chain diversification and security strategy that moves some supply back to the Western Hemisphere from China and India.

5.) White House has failed to enforce exisitng immigration laws.

6.) Congress has failed to deliver an immigration law that works, does not include amnesty (11 million illegals got amnesty in the 1986/1987 Immigration Reform Act), and includes a path to citizenship for Dreamers but they go to the bottom of the queue because they cut in line.

I have sympathy for those seeking a better life and more opportunities, but, they need to make that better life and more opportunities themselves, in their home countries.

We should be giving a hand-up to our Western Hemisphere neighbors to assist them make their home countries better.

America's future lay not in China, the Middle East, nor Europe.  It lay in the developing economies of Latin America, Africa, and the greater Indo-Pacific.  American leadership has been absent, and has allowed the Chi-coms to make inroads in those regions.
