I know this is unusual, but I have never seen a pocket protector. Have seen them on TV but have never held one in my hand.
I think pocket protectors came about because of leaky pens. At one time it was common for pens to leak and ruin a shirt, I guess.
That was before my time.

Mine was super convenient It had a slot that I could display my Plant Badge, and still hold enough color coded pens and pencils to markup P & I D's., and highlight pens to markup regulations.

I think the proliferation of the nerd moniker finally killed them off as a fashion accessory.

That is exactly what pocket protectors were made for...leaky pens.

And that's why mechanics picked em up... greasy little tools that you carry all the time don't get your shirt dirty... Not that your shirt won't get dirty anyway. Kinda a bandaid on a arterial wound that way.

Of course they can use them. All they have to do is straddle them or back up to them.
