Golda Meir made a cottage industry of telling US Presidents where to get off.  They are going to do what it takes to preserve their country.

But they owe Biden.  Meir would have lost the '67 war had she not had Senator Biden at her side.

Israel promises Hamas the ‘mother of all thumpings’ after cease-fire ends and shelling re-starts
By Social Links for Alyssa Guzman
Published Dec. 1, 2023, 4:01 p.m. ET

Israel spent its recent seven day cease-fire gaining intelligence to plan “surgical air strikes” to avoid civilian causalities, and its military spokespeople promised Hamas will receive the “mother of all thumpings” following the end of the cease-fire.

Minutes before the cease-fire was set to expire at 7 a.m. Friday morning, Israeli forces said they shot down a Hamas rocket fired from Gaza, breaking the fragile agreement and leading to the shelling of the area.

Government spokesperson Eylon Levy said Friday that “Hamas will now take the mother of all thumpings” after it failed to release all the female hostages promised as part of their cease-fire agreement.

The terrorist organization still has 20 female hostages in captivity, as well as 117 males and two infants, according to Levy.

A Hamas official said he didn’t know how many hostages had died under the terror group’s control as the “number isn’t important.”

So has Benjamin Netanyahu ---- since the days James Baker banned him from the State Department during the GHWB administration.

Maybe I've simply reached a saturation point with Netanyahu.  After decades of him relying on our financial and international support, I'm weary of him publicly disrespecting the US on both the international stage and in the halls of our own Congress and  government agencies--- in ways he disrespects no other "ally".

I'm approaching the position of stopping all foreign aid, including to countries demanding we put up and shut up.  I'd prefer we spend  those taxpayer billions taking care of our own borders and security ---- preserving our own country for a change.

And, yes, I include Zelensky and NATO freeloaders in this equation, too.

Not necessarily, but he is motivated to not give an inch to Hamas.  Destroying Hamas is Job 1.  They said the same thing about Bush vs Sadaam, by the way, so I wonder if anybody related to a potential casualty must be barred from Leadership?

Never forget these animals murdered Bibi's brother.  He won't.

The recent atrocities against the people of Israel and the horrors told of those hostages returned is reason to make sure Hamas is stopped.  I don't see that Bibi has any other option.  He knows that Hamas can't be trusted regardless of what treaty that they eventually say that they will accept.  Trusting Hamas would be absurd.

Hamas is taking on Israel and next will be Europe and the U.S. They're here.  People need to fully comprehend what's going on.

Scarborough Floats Withholding Israel Aid Until Netanyahu Ousted — ‘We’re Not Going to Throw Money Down a Rat Hole’

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough said Friday on his show “Morning Joe” that the United States should consider withholding aid from Israel until Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is removed from power.

Six days after Oct. 7th, I went on the PBD Podcast and asked a series of questions about what Israeli intelligence failures happened that allowed Hamas to massacre 1,200 civilians. The clip went viral and I was attacked as an antisemite and called worse than a "Holocaust denier."

But now my instincts have been vindicated by a recent bombshell report proving Israel knew Hamas's attack plans more than a year in advance — they called it "Jericho wall" — and the plans were shared widely with intelligence and defense officials.

Now many more questions must be answered:

Why did Israeli intelligence officials, when notified of unusual activity in Gaza on Oct 6, not put one-and-one together that the planned attack was about to unfold?

Why did it it take between 6 and even 20 hours for the IDF to get help to the communities massacred by terrorists?

I stand with Israel and its offensive against Hamas, but the US should not send one more penny to Israel until we have answers to these questions.

FWIW,  there is a contradictory school of thought on Netanyahu's treatment of Hamas --- and motivation for it --- since he resumed his premiership in 2009.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vehemently denied accusations he allowed Qatar to fund and strengthen the militant group Hamas in order to divide Palestinians into rival political camps, slamming the claims as “ridiculous.”

Netanyahu’s opponents in Israel argue his government spent years actively boosting Hamas in Gaza by allowing Qatar to channel hundreds of millions of dollars to the coastal enclave in a risky game of “divide-and-rule,” that was meant to play the Islamist militants from Hamas off against the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank.

“It’s a big lie that I wanted to build [up] Hamas. Ridiculous,” Netanyahu said in an interview with Axel Springer, POLITICO’s parent company. “You don’t go to war three times with Hamas or do major military operations if you want to build up Hamas.”

Former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is a leading example of a politician who takes that version of events with a pinch of salt. “In the last 15 years, Israel did everything to downgrade the Palestinian Authority and to boost Hamas,” he previously told POLITICO. “Gaza was on the brink of collapse because they had no resources, they had no money, and the PA refused to give Hamas any money. Bibi saved them. Bibi made a deal with Qatar and they started to move millions and millions of dollars to Gaza.”

Most incriminatingly, Netanyahu himself said in 2019 at a Likud party conference: “Anyone who wants to prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state needs to support strengthening Hamas.”

19.00 EST

Summary of the day so far
It’s 2am in Gaza City and Tel Aviv. Here’s a recap of the latest developments:

Israel’s military pounded the Gaza Strip on Friday after the end of a seven-day truce. Israel launched more than 200 strikes across the Gaza Strip on Friday, including in the densely populated south, where many civilians have fled. Khan Younis, which was previously attacked less heavily than the north of Gaza, was almost bombed from the air immediately after the truce broke down. Israel has signaled that it is preparing to launch a ground assault into southern Gaza in a significant escalation of the war. Gaza’s health ministry said 178 civilians had been killed since the ceasefire ended.

Israel’s military has set out its plan for the “next stage of the war”: dividing Gaza into dozens of numbered “evacuation areas”, a core part of the military’s plan to gradually take control of the southern part of the strip. Under the plan, people in certain numbered districts of Gaza will be told to evacuate before bombing begins, although how much time they will get is not clear. Leaflets were dropped in parts of Khan Younis, where Israel believes Hamas’s leadership is based, warning citizens to evacuate further south to Rafah.

Humanitarian groups said the Israeli warnings would be insufficient because civilians in Gaza were running out of places to evacuate to. Palestinians risked being forced completely out of the territory, they said. Homes in Khan Younis were among the targets struck on Friday hours after the truce expired, and residents were given little, if any, time to flee.

No humanitarian aid has been allowed into Gaza on Friday, including fuel, the head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) has said. The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said Israeli forces told organisations operating at the Rafah crossing that the entry of aid trucks is prohibited “until further notice”. A spokesperson for the crossing said the entrance of trucks carrying much-needed aid, fuel and cooking gas from Egypt into the Gaza Strip had stopped because of Israeli bombardment.

The resumption of hostilities came as the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, appeared to brush aside US calls to pursue a more restrained military campaign. Netanyahu said his country’s forces were now “charging forward” and that the plan was for a total military victory. In a difficult meeting on Thursday, US secretary of state Antony Blinken clashed with the Israeli cabinet and insisted the level of civilian casualties had to be reduced in any resumed assault and that Israel had to share its long-term objectives for Gaza with moderate Arab states.

The families of hostages being held in Gaza have said they are terrified about the safety of their loved ones after the end of the ceasefire. The relatives of some of the remaining 126 Israeli hostages have said they are grappling with feeling joy for those who have been released, while being worried sick for loved ones left behind.

Israel has said it will not renew visa for a top UN official who helps oversee humanitarian aid for the Gaza Strip and occupied West Bank, a UN spokesperson said. Israel’s foreign ministry last month accused Lynn Hastings, the UN’s deputy special coordinator for the Middle East peace process and UN humanitarian coordinator for the occupied Palestinian territory, of failing to be impartial and objective.

Rishi Sunak has described the breakdown of the truce as “deeply disappointing” and issued renewed calls for “sustained humanitarian pauses” in Gaza as he held talks with Israel’s president and the leaders of Egypt, Qatar and Jordan on the sidelines of the Cop28 summit on Friday.

Israel’s military was aware of Hamas’ plan to launch an attack on Israeli soil more than a year before the bloody 7 October terror attack, according to a New York Times report. The document was reportedly circulated widely among Israeli military and intelligence officials, who dismissed the plan as being of a scale and ambition that was beyond Hamas’s capabilities.

The Biden administration has informed Israel that Washington will impose visa bans in the next few weeks on Israeli extremist settlers engaged in violence against Palestinian civilians in the occupied West Bank, a senior state department official said, in the first sign that the US is prepared to publicly distance itself from some of the Israeli government’s actions.

Israeli shelling in south Lebanon kills three, Lebanese media says

Israeli shelling killed three people in southern Lebanon on Friday, Lebanon’s state news agency reported, as the collapse of a Israel-Hamas truce prompted a resumption of hostilities at the frontier.

The number rose after two people were earlier reported killed.

The Iran-backed Lebanese group Hezbollah, a Hamas ally, later said two of those killed were its fighters. It also said it had carried out several attacks on Israeli military positions at the border in support Palestinians in Gaza, Reuters reports.

The Israeli army said its artillery struck sources of fire from Lebanon and that air defences had intercepted two launches. The army also said it struck a “terrorist cell”.

Sirens warning of possible incoming rockets sounded in several towns in northern Israel, sending residents running for shelter.

Lebanon’s state news agency reported that two people were killed by Israeli shelling in the Lebanese border town of Houla, and one person was killed in the village of Jebbayn.

184 killed since resumption of fighting, Gaza authorities say

Gaza health officials say Israeli air strikes have killed 184 people and wounded at least 589 others since the truce expired on Friday morning.

More than 20 houses had been hit, Reuters reports the officials as saying on Friday evening.

The Gaza health ministry said earlier that most of those killed were children and women.

The figures cannot be independently verified.

Israel’s bombardment on Friday after the collapse of the seven-day ceasefire was most intense in the southern areas of Khan Younis and Rafah, medics and witnesses said.

Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have been sheltering there because of fighting in the north.

Houses in central and northern areas were also hit.

Blinken said to warn war cabinet Israel may not have months to topple Hamas
Times of Israel, Dec 1, 2023

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned Israel’s war cabinet on Thursday that it likely doesn’t have months to wage war against Hamas in Gaza, as domestic and international pressure mounts on US President Joe Biden’s administration to draw an end to the fighting, an Israeli official said.

The warning was one of several issued by the top US diplomat during his meeting with the war cabinet and in separate sit-downs with top officials. At a press conference, he also publicly cautioned Israel at considerable length against allowing the same scale of death and displacement in southern Gaza once fighting shifts there from northern Gaza.

During Thursday’s war cabinet meeting, ministers reportedly pushed back on some of Blinken’s concerns regarding how Israel has prosecuted the campaign, saying that the IDF follows the laws of war and has taken steps to avoid civilian casualties.

[...]

Senior Israeli military officers say the IDF’s tactics in northern Gaza involved encouraging noncombatants for weeks to evacuate, and then bombarding targeted areas heavily from the air, before ground forces moved through building by building. This left immense devastation, they acknowledge, but was necessary to address concerns that almost every building was booby-trapped and contained shafts leading to underground tunnels from which Hamas gunmen were emerging or poised to emerge.

The IDF has been considering more surgical use of ground forces in parts of southern Gaza, but also believes utilizing the northern Gaza approach when tackling Hamas strongholds in the south could be crucial in avoiding large-scale IDF casualties.

“The way Israel defends itself matters,” Blinken said at his press conference. Israel must act in accordance with “humanitarian law and the laws of war, even when confronting a terrorist group that respects neither.”

All of this can be done while enabling Israel to achieve its objectives, he asserted, though he acknowledged that the challenge is complicated because “Hamas intentionally embeds within civilians — within and below hospitals, schools, apartment buildings, refugee camps.”

Still, he argued, Israel’s sophisticated military “is capable of neutralizing the threat posed by Hamas, while minimizing harm to innocent men, women and children. And it has an obligation to do so.”

[...]

In addition to sharpening his rhetoric regarding the need to protect civilians in Gaza, Blinken said he also discussed the need to plan for who will govern Gaza after the war.

The US is pushing for a “revitalized” Palestinian Authority to eventually govern a reunited Gaza and West Bank, though Netanyahu has all but rejected this proposal.

Blinken said Ramallah would have to undergo reforms, rid itself of corruption and promote a free press to be “revitalized.”

During the war cabinet meeting, Blinken reportedly confronted Netanyahu to propose alternatives to PA rule rather than just dismissing what much of the international community believes is the only realistic option for a post-war Gaza.

“The best way to kill an idea is to bring a better idea. The other countries in the region need to know what you are planning,” Blinken told Netanyahu in comments leaked to Channel 12.

There was a moment of silence in the room before Netanyahu responded, “As long as I’m sitting in this chair, the Palestinian Authority, which supports, educates and finances terror, will not rule Gaza the day after Hamas [is toppled].”

During his meeting with Netanyahu, Blinken again raised the need for Israel to take “immediate steps to hold settler extremists accountable for violence against Palestinians in the West Bank,” according to the US readout. Earlier this month, Biden threatened to issue visa bans against violent settlers whose attacks, rights groups say, have led roughly 1,000 Palestinians to flee their lands.

Blinken told reporters he raised Washington’s “deep concerns” about the uptick in extremist settler violence in addition to proposals from several hardline ministers to further expand settlements in the West Bank.

“I made clear our expectations about addressing these issues,” he said.

He called for steps towards “improving the lives of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank in immediate, tangible ways,” adding that they should be provided with a credible path toward statehood.

Released Palestinians allege abuse in Israeli jails
Lucy Williamson
Reporting from Jenin, in the West Bank

Palestinian prisoners released from Israeli jails have told the BBC that guards carried out abuse and collective punishment in the weeks after the Hamas attacks on Israel on 7 October.

The prisoners - who were freed over the last week as part of the now-ended hostage deal - have described being hit with sticks, having muzzled dogs set on them, and their clothes, food and blankets taken away.

One female prisoner has said she was threatened with rape, and that guards twice tear-gassed inmates inside the cells.

The BBC spoke to six people in total, all of whom said they were beaten before leaving jail.

The Palestinian Prisoners Society says some guards are alleged to have urinated on handcuffed prisoners and that six detainees had died in jail.

In response to the allegations, the Israel Prison Service told the BBC all prisoners were detained according to the law and had all their basic rights legally required.

"We are not aware of the claims you described," it said in a statement. "Nonetheless, prisoners and detainees have the right to file a complaint that will be fully examined by official authorities."

Israel did not address our question about deaths in custody directly, but said that four prisoners had died on four different dates over the past weeks, and that the prison service had no knowledge of the causes of death.
