MILITARY LIFE
Navy SEAL BUD/S training

If you recently signed a contract with the U.S. Navy for a shot at Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training, better known as BUD/S, there are a few things you need to know in order to pass the grueling training.

The U.S. military has some of the best-trained and most experienced special operations forces in the world. Navy SEALs have become legends for their exploits on battlefields throughout the world as far back as the 1960s. Even before the SEALs were established, their predecessors completed beach reconnaissance for the Allied invasion on D-Day.

SEALs can go into any environment and dominate the enemy, a testament to the advanced training and funding they receive at their unit, but also the assessment and selection that happens during BUD/S.

A brief history of Navy BUD/S training

And SEALS have really big mouths these days!
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

No,they can't. ANYBODY that thinks a 6 man team armed with  individual weapons  can go into a hostile territory  and dominate it isn't knowledgeable enough to  be a fool.

SEALS,like all the other special operations groups, can go into enemy territory and accomplish specific missions before having to be pulled out,but they ain't dominating anybody's army.

I dunno. The only one I know today is married to the daughter of an ex,and he is now retired and working in some sort of administrative/training job related to the SEALS.

Don't know for sure what it is and I know better than to ask because chances are he  would have to lie to me.

I do know that he served as part of a body guard detachment for some local warlord in Shitstainistan at one time when he was on active duty, but that's it. I THINK he was an  officer, but am not sure about that because with special projects people,it is not always  easy to tell who is in charge of anything on any given day and time.

He knows I was with SOG,but AFAIK,he doesn't even know what SOG was because he has never asked, not even  when I told  him I had served a tour plus with  SOG.

Then again, unlike SOG ops in VN,the SEAL operations are still going on somewhere,so it's best if nobody but PR pukes say much about them. MY stuff is ancient history, and his stuff is current.

This is the way these things are supposed to be,and I have no problem with  it.

BTW,I don't know how things are done in ANY special ops community these days, but back in the 60's,in SF,you didn't even get to BE on a team  unless a team leader asked for you and you  agreed to volunteer.

And make NO mistake about it,the team leader WAS the boss of that team. I have seen 6 man recon teams in SF that had a E-6 as the recon team leader,a E-5-E-7 as the assistant team leader, and a freaking 0-3 Captain as the radio operator that carried the radio and was junior in authority to everyone else on the team. The man with  the  most experience WAS the team leader, and the man with the least experience carried the radio. That IS how it was.

Seems like there has been a lot of rot and corruption within the SEAL community lately, with the training deaths, drugs and trafficking, and even murder.

@Timber Rattler

There are always going to be training deaths in these "out on the cutting edge units",or the training isn't realistic. Bleep  happens.

I honestly don't know what to say about the links above.

Hell,I don't even know WHY a SF NCO would be attached to a SEAL Team for any reason beyond shared cross-training in some of the specialized skills. Makes zero sense to me. There is unity in teams, and you don't just invite strangers to become team mates on an actual mission because it creates chaos. EVERYBODY on a team has to know how everybody else on the team is going to respond to any  possible situation that pops up,and NOBODY goes in on a  hot mission with a "newbie" unless it is someone who is a "specialist" in a category and his knowledge is going to be needed for that specific mission. Even then,he has to spent time training with the team  in the bush, doing things like IA drills, first aid, etc, etc, etc.
