Texas House is Frozen as Quorum is Busted

Texas Scorecard by Brandon Waltens October 31, 2023

Without a quorum, the House is unable to vote on bills or motions.

The Texas House is at a standstill with just days left in the third special session, as for the second day in a row the chamber has lacked a quorum.

When attendance was taken Tuesday morning, only 77 of the chamber’s 150 members registered as present. The chamber’s rules require 100 members to be present in order to conduct business.

Without a quorum the House is unable to vote on bills or motions, or to accept the new widened special session call from Gov. Greg Abbott.

Democrats still rule in the Texas House!
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Why do they require a supermajority for a quorum? Usually it's a simple majority.
