Bedbug fears grip Paris as French minister pledges action
« on: October 09, 2023, 09:36:13 am »
France’s transport minister on Wednesday urged for calm amid widespread reports of bedbug infestations in the capital and other cities, as he said more could be done to tackle the scourge.

“Along with transport operators, we will provide even more efficient solutions,” Clément Beaune told reporters after holding an industry meeting, adding that discussions would be held with cleaning companies regarding innovations in the sector.

“There is no [bedbug] resurgence, we must not fall into madness,” he also said, according to French broadcaster BFM TV via a CNBC translation.

It comes after videos appearing to show bedbugs, or “punaises des lits,” on the Paris Metro, high-speed trains and at Charles de Gaulle Airport were shared widely on social media. Sightings have also been reported in homes, cinemas and hospitals.

Hmm, what do those countries have in common besides bedbugs? Could it be hordes of illegal immigrants?

I was thinking it's a biblical  plague. or like a biblical plague. Instead of locusts, we will have bedbugs.

And bedbugs I think are like Twinkies in the fact they could survive a nuclear bomb.

Quite possible. Much as I always loved visiting France, we'll be staying closer to home in the near future.  **nononono*

Bed bugs aren't that hardy if they are removed from human contact or, in certain circumstances, avian contact.  They're just really hard to kill once they get into your house because they are very adept at hiding in tiny spaces, do not need to feed every day, and are not particularly social so they won't bring a poison back to the nest and spread it around.

There is something darkly comedic in the French going to war against bedbugs while the Israelis are fighting for their actual survival.
