Democrat congressman Henry Cuellar was carjacked at gunpoint this evening according to multiple reports.

The crime occurred outside his DC apartment in the Navy Yard / Capitol Hill area.

A DC alert went out shortly after the incident that indicated that three black males were on the loose.

The white Honda has since been recovered.



Laura Barron-Lopez, a White House correspondent for Newshour tweeted that Cuellar is safe.

Amen.

Congress has a constitutional duty to ensure our nation’s capital is safe.

And local DC politicians have made it unsafe.

Repeal the DC Home Rule Act of 1973.

In the meantime, Congress must take control of DC law enforcement.

FYI, @RepCuellar serves on the very powerful House Appropriations Committee.

He's the top Democrat on Homeland Security Subcommittee.

And serves on Defense Subcommittee.

It seems like a big national-security problem these thugs stole his phone and iPad.

Texas Rep. Henry Cuellar carjacked at gunpoint by three assailants outside his DC apartment

Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) was carjacked at gunpoint Monday outside his Washington, DC, apartment building, according to his office.

The 68-year-old south Texas lawmaker was unharmed during the incident in DC’s trendy Navy Yard neighborhood at approximately 9:32 p.m., according to DC’s Metropolitan Police Department.

“As Congressman Cuellar was parking his car this evening, 3 armed assailants approached the Congressman and stole his vehicle,” Cuellar’s Chief of Staff Jacob Hochberg told The Post.

“Luckily, he was not harmed and is working with local law enforcement. Thank you to Metro PD and Capitol Police for their swift action and for recovering the Congressman’s vehicle.”

Cuellar was reportedly outside “a dorm building in which dozens” of House members live, according to Axios reporter Andrew Solender, who cited a group chat used by the lawmakers that occupy the building.

In a Tuesday morning statement, the Metropolitan Police Department said that the U.S. Capitol Police had taken over the investigation.

"The Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of an armed carjacking Monday evening at approximately 9:32 p.m. at the intersection of New Jersey and K Street, Southeast. The victim was identified as a member of Congress and the United States Capitol Police took over the investigation. MPD is assisting Capitol Police’s Criminal Investigative Division," the statement read.

House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar, D-Calif., was spotted at the location of the crime with Cuellar as Capitol police were processing the scene and taking a statement from Cuellar.

"DC’s Metropolitan Police Department is investigating an armed carjacking that happened around 9:30 p.m. in DC's Navy Yard neighborhood," Capitol police said in a statement late Monday night. "The victim has been identified as a Member of Congress, so the USCP has investigators working with MPD on this case. Injuries were not reported. Detectives are working to track down the suspect."

Leftists are getting mugged by reality

For years, conservatives have complained about leftist district attorneys, zero-bail laws, lenient sentencing, meaningless sentencing, police defunding, failure to back the blue, open borders and other fixtures of the plague of violence now seen in America's blue cities.

The results are ugly, with mass numbers of Americans victims. What has to come as a surprise to the left is that they're not exempt from it either. They're getting mugged, too, same as other people in blue cities. And worse.

This year, the DC AG fought for reduced sentences for carjackings in the name of fairness for people of color.

Carjackings YTD are ~655, on pace to be up 100% over 2022, which was a record high.

173 House Democrats voted a few months ago against overturning the DC laws that lowered the penalty for carjackings.

The city is now on pace to have 1,000 in 2023 alone.

Members of Congress can't even go home on a Monday night without being carjacked at gunpoint.
