‘Unprecedented level of assistance’: Dem Gov slams NYC over handling of migrant crisis

Democratic New York Gov. Kathy Hochul accused fellow Democrat New York City Mayor Eric Adams Tuesday of not communicating or coordinating with the state over the ongoing migrant crisis, according to Politico.
Hochul’s legal team accused Adams of busing migrants with little or no notice to the suburbs and refusing some state assistance, including shelter resources, according to Politico, which obtained the letter Wednesday morning. The city has had to care for roughly 100,000 migrants.

“The State has provided and will continue to provide an unprecedented level of assistance to the City and to develop dynamic strategies to support the City in meeting its legal obligations and handling this crisis effectively,” the state’s new counsel, Faith Gay, wrote in the letter.
Adams requested more support from the state and federal government to help with the migrant surge in an Aug. 9 press conference.
“New York City has been left to pick up the pieces of a broken immigration system — one that is projected to cost our city $12 billion over the course of three fiscal years without policy changes and further support from the state and federal governments. Our compassion may be limitless, but our resources are not,” Adams said during the presser.
