Trump denied request for delay in Jan. 6 hearing after Truth Social tirade against judge

U.S. District Judge Tanya S. Chutkan rejected a request on Tuesday from former President Donald Trump to delay a hearing until next week in the case related to the 2020 election, instead setting it for Friday morning.
Trump's attorneys had asked the judge to postpone the hearing until next Monday or Tuesday after Chutkan asked both Trump and special counsel Jack Smith to choose a date of Friday or earlier, according to court filings.
Trump's defense team said the former president would not be present for the hearing and that Trump wanted attorneys John Lauro and Todd Blanche both to appear for it.
Blanche would not be available Thursday because he had to appear in court in Florida in a separate federal case against Trump regarding classified documents, while Lauro could be available Thursday afternoon, the filing said.
Prosecutors stated they could be available Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday.
Trump's attorneys did not acknowledge Wednesday as an option and wrote in their postponement request that they "lost Friday as an option" without indicating a reason for why that day was off the table. Blanche's office declined to comment on the reason, and Lauro did not respond to a request for comment.
