‘NICE TRY’: FBI Gets Fact-Checked After Pushing Blatant Lie on Social Media
Story by Taylor Gold •

A social media post from the FBI was fact-checked on X, formerly known as Twitter. The FBI attempted to distance itself from the fact that it monitored school board meetings.

“The FBI’s statement is misleading,” the fact-check reads. “On May 18, 2023, former FBI agent Steve Friend testified before the House Judiciary Committee that he and others were directed to surveil and document parents attending school board meetings.”

The FBI has been under major scrutiny in recent years following investigations into concerned parents at school board meetings as well as the unprecedented raid at former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.

In a tweet, the FBI said, “In reference to the false assertions about investigating parents at school board meetings, FBI Director Wray told the House Judiciary Committee that the Bureau is not in the business of policing speech.”

The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.
