That's the lie.

Ron DeSantis was already in Congress at the time of the 2016 elections. Trump had nothing to do with getting him elected to public office. The other part of the lie is that if he'd've waited until '28, he'd be the frontrunner—when Trump has already indicated he would keep running until the day he dies (or forever, since he seems to think he never will die).

I do not wish the man any ill will, but I think as a plea agreement for no jail time or lesser jail time he will have to commit to dropping out of the race and never seek office again.  We'll see what happens.

I'd be furious if I donated money to a particular candidate, who then dropped out and used that money to help elect Donald Trump.  If I wanted Trump to win, I'd have donated to him in the first place.

Fortunately, I think it's very unlikely that will happen.  The people who have money and are opposing Trump will use every penny of it to try to beat him.  They'll quit if/when they go broke, and there won't be anything left for Trump at that point.
