Scary Red Map
Posted on July 23, 2023 by tonyheller

“This map highlights all the states in the lower 48 that are forecast to reach over 90 degrees () at some point in the next 10 days It’s every state, but one. Vermont…”

July 23-August 2 1931 was much hotter. Every state was over 90F, thirty-three states were over 100F and ten states were over 110F.

New Hampshire and Maine look about the same as Vermont.

I can happily report that the high today at the Castle was only 109.8F.  There have been days the River (900 feet below us) saw 120F. I'll have to sift the auto emails I have gotten from my personal weather station, but it seems like it's been two weeks of >110F.

We have a word for this in Arizona:  "Normal."

Call me when it's 105 in the shade.

I was in Maine a few days ago, and it was 60s-70s with some clouds.  Evidently they are going to bake this week.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Not a single heat wave this summer so far, which is a first. Not that it's been particularly cool, it has rained a lot.
