On one hand, Columbia, TN has a history of several lynchings - 1933 most recently - and there was a race riot in 1946 and related prosecutions in 1946. For some reason, W'pedia's history of the town does not go beyond 1946. To give some scale, not only was I not born yet in 1946, I do not know if my parents had yet met in 1946.
Proggies want to read racism into Aldean's choice of location. Let me propose two equally or more reasonable possibilities:
1. Columbia has left its racists in the past, and Aldean wanted to create a different image for it, a town that values and aids its own, all of its own (like the song says!).
2. Columbia is convenient to Nashville, just ~35-40 miles down the Interstate, and has a building of iconic appearance.
3. Both.
