Former President Donald Trump praised Chinese President Xi Jinping — again — during his town hall with Fox News host Sean Hannity on Tuesday, calling the Chinese leader a “brilliant guy” who “runs 1.4 billion people with an iron fist.”


“Think of President Xi. Central casting, brilliant guy. You know, when I say he’s brilliant, everyone says, ‘Oh that’s terrible,'” said Trump during the event. “Well, he runs 1.4 billion people with an iron fist. Smart, brilliant, everything perfect. There’s nobody in Hollywood like this guy. I got them to pay us $28 billion because they screwed our farmers for years.”


Trump has frequently praised President Xi, as well as other adversarial foreign leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un.

He complained that compared to China, it was much more difficult to enact policy/law in the United States, and he was essentially jealous of their form of 'government'.

Wow.  I think that's the first time I've ever heard a President state his admiration for a foreign leader because he rules with an "iron fist".

I'm starting to understand better why Trump's familiarity with the Constitution doesn't seem to have improved since he first ran for office.  I truly think he views it as more of a pain in the ass - an annoying technicality that prevented him from doing the things he wanted to do - than as something to be understood, respected, and defended.

That would explain an awful lot about the guy.

This was not a good statement on the part of Trump. I would like to think that he meant to say something different, but it came out wrong.

Although I wonder what the phrase “everything perfect” means. And all is not well in China. Not  only do the people there don’t have basic freedoms, but their economy is still a controlled economy that  really isn’t doing all that well.

It is true that Trump was the only president since the 1990’s that understood the threat of China. But it’s this statement that definitely raises eyebrows

Admiration for the Chinese dictators seems to be in the leftist DNA. Trudeau from Canada, once verbalized  admiration for the Chinese system. After  Obama won in 2008, Thomas Friedman, from the New York Times, also expressed admiration of their system

They may have been open to more free market reforms in the last couple decades, but it is still a dictatorship

Every wannabe tyrannical dictator admires Xi - President for life and no pesky Constitution, Congress, Supreme Court, or popular elections to gum up the works.

Obama might have had an easier time with GOP Congress had he, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid not abused Budget Reconciliation to shove the Affordable Care Act down America's throat without debate nor amendments ... by 1 vote.

For every action, there is a reaction.  Obama, Pelosi, and Reid acted like dictators, and they got an obstructionist GOP Congress in return for their efforts.

Tyrannts, dictators, and revolutionaries use expediency as an excuse to infringe upon Civil Rights.

In the American Constiutional Federalist Republic form of Government, the means - debates, amendments, votes, checks, balances, consensus/coalition building - are the ends.  Every aspiring Executive tyrrant will view those as obstructions, and try to circumvent them.

In 2009-2011, the Dems were impatient and desparate to pass the Affordable Care Act at any cost, even if they had to trample upon Democracy to get their way, quickly.

Trump did not express admiration for Xi.  He's acknowledging that Xi is at the top of his game and he is primed to win.  Trump has long warned about China ----- even years before he ran for office ---- citing chapter and verse from our stupid Uniparty leadership folding in surrender to benefit their own corruption. 

Trump also often reiterates how he had Xi under control, even losing to Trump on issues of trade, tariffs and military advancements. 

Trump is the leader Xi would and will not f*ck with ---- because Xi understands that Trump, too, is at the top of his game, and that Trump has his number.

Neither did Putin or Kim Jong Un f*uck with Trump ---- for the same reasons.

I do not understand why this triggers the need for mischaracterization and ridicule of Trump's comments.
