Two people were killed following a crash on the Belt Parkway in Queens Saturday that left their car split in half, police said.

The unidentified victims are a 29-year-old woman and 35-year-old man, cops said.

The tragedy unfolded around 3:45 a.m. when a Dodge Challenger traveling westbound on the Belt Parkway in the vicinity of Spingfield Boulevard rearended a Mazda CX5, authorities said.

The Dodge, in which both victims were riding, appeared to lose control before striking a pole, police said.

Doesn't surprise me.  There are people with fast cars who use the Belt parkway as their own personal speedway, and weave in and out of traffic at speeds that sometimes top 100mph (on a crowded three-lane highway).  The surprise is that these wrecks don't happen more often on that road.
