The ex-NYPD cop who brutalized Abner Louima with a broomstick at a Brooklyn precinct in 1997 has been released early from federal prison — despite opposition by prosecutors, who called his actions “one of the most heinous crimes in New York City’s history.”

Justin Volpe, now 51, has been transferred from a lockup in Sandstone, Minnesota, to “community confinement” in New York, a spokesman for the federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed to The Post Tuesday.

“Community confinement means the inmate is in either home confinement or a … halfway house,” the spokesman said.

The disgraced ex-cop has served just 24 years of a 30-year sentence for the brutal attack, in which Volpe eventually admitted to sodomizing the innocent and handcuffed victim with a broomstick inside the 70th Precinct in Kensington.

Records now list Volpe’s full release as Jan. 10 — one day shy of being a full year earlier than the date previously listed for his earliest eligibility for freedom, Jan. 9, 2025.

Abner Louima, who was sodomized by ex-NYPD cop Justin Volpe in a 1997 attack that shocked the nation, told The Post on Tuesday he has forgiven his attacker — but will never forget.

“I’m a Christian. … Of course I’ve forgiven,” Louima, now 56, said the day after it surfaced that Volpe was just released early from federal prison after 24 years behind bars.

But Louima, a dad and grandfather, added, “My life has changed in the worst imaginable way.

“Of course I still think about my attack. I think about it most of the time. I still suffer emotionally,” he said.

“I will live with the pain for the rest of my life. I will suffer for the rest of my life,” said Louima, who has lived in Florida since 2001. “When something that bad happens to you, it’s something you have to live with and feel every day.

Infamous ex-NYPD cop Justin Volpe, who sodomized club-goer Abner Louima with a broken broomstick in 1997, told The Post on Tuesday that he has “nothing but love for” his victim.

In Volpe’s first public comments since his early release from federal prison this week, the 51-year-old disgraced officer said, “I wish everybody well that was involved with my case.

“I have nothing but love in my heart for New York City and everybody in my case involved, especially Mr. Louima,” Volpe said as he stood outside his family’s home in Fresh Kills, Staten Island.

“I wish us all peace,” he continued. “I just want to rebuild my life at the pace that I’m able to. God bless everyone.”

Volpe spent 24 years behind bars after his 1999 confession that he abused and sexually assaulted Louima, then 30, in a 70th Precinct bathroom during an arrest two years earlier — a stomach-churning attack that exploded on front pages across the country.
