DeSantis dings Trump Supreme Court picks, vows ‘We’ll do better’

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis slighted former President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court picks Monday, saying they came up short of what DeSantis called the “gold standard” set by two of the court’s other conservative justices.

When asked by radio host Hugh Hewitt if he would “pledge to the Republicans as you go around the country that your judges will be like the Trump judges,” the 44-year-old DeSantis responded: “Well, actually, I would say we’ll do better than that.

“I respect the three appointees he did, but none of those three are at the same level of Justice [Clarence] Thomas and Justice [Samuel] Alito,” DeSantis said of Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett. “I think they [Alito and Thomas] are the gold standard.”

DeSantis went on to vow that if he is elected next year, his nominations for the high court “will be along the lines of a Sam Alito and a Clarence Thomas.”

He could have done better than Kavanaugh --- I was pretty disappointed at the time.  The progressive nominees always march lockstep, but Kavanaugh will be unreliable. 

I would expect trumpworld to welcome this news.  They disparaged all of his justices after Ken Paxton's lawsuit was rejected.

Does DeSantis want to give back the overturing of Roe v Wade?

Trump gave the social conservatives what they wanted - Supreme Court Justices who would overturn Roe v Wade.

What point is DeSantis trying to make?  That DeSantis is more fantabulously the greatest Presidential candidate ever?

If DeSantis gets into a pissing contest with Trump, DeSantis will drown.

Yeah, DeSantis never really truly defines what he thinks “better” supreme court justices would be.

This might be him running to the right in the primary process while Donald Trump runs to the left. But it is still a strange line of attack.

The 2023 clown show presented by Trump and DeSantis.   DeSantis should have waited till the very last minute to jump into the race.  Now he either fights like a bully or lets Trump run all over him.  This is exactly what we don't need!

Doubtful that I will vote for RFK Jr.  2A for one reason alone.

That could be a rollicking good season, if against someone thoughtful.
I'd never vote for RFK. Wrong side of things for me... But he's got the beans. And he's racked for a liberal... information hound.
