Nolte: Tucker Carlson Announces New Show on Twitter ‘Soon’

Former Fox News primetime anchor Tucker Carlson announced on Tuesday that he will “soon” broadcast a show on Twitter, which he called one of the few “English speaking” outlets that still allows free speech.

“Starting soon, we will be doing a new version of the show we’ve been doing for six-and-a-half years to Twitter,” Tucker promised without elaborating on what “soon” means. “We’ll bring some other things too, which we’ll tell you about. But for now, we’re just grateful to be here.”

He closed with, “Free speech is the main right that you have. Without it, you have no others.”

In fewer than 20 minutes, the video had over 700,000 views, which is more viewers than anyone at CNN earns.

Tucker Carlson, two weeks after being ousted by Fox News, accused the network Tuesday of fraud and breach of contract — and made a host of document demands that could precede legal action.

Why it matters: The aggressive letter from his lawyers to Fox positions Carlson to argue that the noncompete provision in his contract is no longer valid — freeing him to launch his own competing show or media enterprise.

    On Tuesday, Carlson announced he would be bringing his show to Twitter.
    "Starting soon we'll be bringing a new version of the show we've been doing for the last six and a half years to Twitter," he said in the video. "We bring some other things too, which we'll tell you about. But for now we're just grateful to be here. Free speech is the main right that you have. Without it, you have no others."

The intrigue: The Twitter move would seem to technically violate Carlson's contract with Fox, but his lawyers' letter effectively holds that Fox breached the contract first.

    Sources told Axios that Carlson's lawyers sent their letter before he took to Twitter to announce his new show.

Based upon Elon Musk's own recent posts on a myriad of targets and subjects, this is going to be outrageously successful.

THIS is why Elon Musk paid $43B for the Twitter platform (even if he didn't realize it)   

Thinking about his Tesla product success, his tech success in space...I'm gonna listen to anything he has to say. 

Going into 'partnership' with Tucker to the point he can turn down guaranteed "eff-u-money" from FOXNEWS??

Let’s talk numbers.

Tucker was reportedly making around $20 million per year. His contract with Fox News would be worth roughly $40 million through its end date of January 2025. Fox News wants to keep paying him, of course, in order to keep him from signing with a competitor or, worse yet, starting his own media empire that sets an entirely new standard for journalism and leaves entities like Fox News in the dust.

Of course, $40 million is a decent chunk of change. No question, that’s a lot of money Tucker would be leaving on the table if/when he’s able to get out his contract.

Here’s the thing, though: He’ll make much, much more by taking his show to Twitter, which opens up multiple revenue streams for him. It’s a model that could easily be replicated by others, with top cover being provided by Elon Musk himself. And it’s a model that would be a reckoning for the establishment media, with all-important ad dollars leaving cable and broadcast news (does that even still exist?) and migrating to independent platforms and creators.

First, there are sponsorships. If we use the CPM (cost per one thousand) model, Tucker could easily command a best-in-class rate of $40 from advertisers (and there are plenty looking to support free speech!). That’s $40 for every one thousand listens, views, or downloads. We know that his two recent Twitter videos garnered millions of views and his show averaged around three million viewers, so we can safely estimate a Twitter viewership of at least two million (and that’s probably low). That means Tucker could charge $80,000 for each ad he reads during the show. And he would likely do at least three ads per show, and possibly more, bringing the daily total to $240,000. You can see how he could quickly and easily surpass his Fox News earnings just on sponsorships.

I think this is a genius move by Musk.  This will pull in millions of extra users into Twitter, and I'll bet after Tucker gets going, and is allowed to go unfettered, he'll surpass Rogan on the pod cast circuit.  And if Musk can figure out how to even marginally monetize that? 

Think about it.  He might get more daily views than a Superbowl view.  Just think what and how much ads might go for.  There is good reasons that left wing heads are exploding right now.  An unleashed Tucker Carlson might end up having a louder and more extensive voice than even Limbaugh had.
