Climate Protesters Shut Down GW Parkway

A group that seeks urgent government action on climate change claimed responsibility for the rush-hour disruption

Climate protesters shut down a portion of the George Washington Parkway during the morning rush hour Wednesday.

Video shows a long line of stopped traffic. Five people wearing neon vests could be seen sitting on the ground and holding a banner.

Both lanes of northbound traffic were blocked near the parkway’s scenic overlooks as of 8:40 a.m., U.S. Park Police said. The roadway was back open about 40 minutes later.


The group Declare Emergency, which seeks urgent government action on climate change, claimed responsibility online. People holding up signs for the group shut down a portion of the Capital Beltway in Silver Spring in October, causing delays for miles.

It wasn’t immediately clear if anyone was arrested on Wednesday.

I suppose they want people to walk or bicycle to work,like the Chinese slaves?

These people have obviously never had jobs or schedules they had to meet. Never mind children to  support,house payments,etc,etc,etc.

Thanks, man. I was kind of channeling my inner Rodney Carrington when I wrote down the lyrics, so it's his voice and chord progressions I heard in my head. Just played it on my guitar here and even I had to burst out laughing a bit.

No rain, either...But still a classic to be!

In the late '60s or early '70s, a bunch of hippies had a sit-in on US 3...
Maryland State Police couldn't dislodge them, but a local guy gave them a call, and showed up in an armored car. Not the kind that go drop money off at the bank, but, IIRC a Ferret: military surplus. He talked with the police,then pulled up near the protesters so they could get a good look.
Then he backed up about a half mile, stopped, and started getting gears going forward.

The protesters scattered.
