President Biden on Tuesday nominated Deputy Labor Secretary Julie Su to be his next secretary of Labor, potentially making her the first Asian American member of his Cabinet.

Su would replace Labor Secretary Marty Walsh, who left the administration to lead the National Hockey League Players’ Association. He was the first Cabinet secretary in the line of succession to leave his post since the start of the Biden administration.

Su, the former California labor secretary, was confirmed by the Senate to serve as deputy Labor secretary in a vote along party lines in July, 2021. In this Congress, Su faces a 51-49 Democratic-led Senate though Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) is receiving treatment for depression at Walter Reed Medical Center for what his office said would be the next few weeks.

The Biden administration is the first in more than 20 years not to have an Asian American Cabinet secretary and Biden was under pressure to name Su to the post since the news of Walsh’s resignation.

Major unions like the Service Employees International Union and the National Education Association came out with endorsements for Su within the last few weeks. The Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus and the Congressional Black Caucus also endorsed her, as well as the Asian American Action Fund. ...

Labor unions love her. Among her other "accomplishments":
Quote
Su started her legal career at Asian-Pacific American Legal Center. She was a Litigation Director for Advancing Justice L.A., a non-profit civil rights organization.

Su was the lead attorney for the El Monte Thai Garment Slavery Case. As the lead for civil case brought by the El Monte garment workers, Su successfully pursued a legal theory that held manufacturers responsible for the wage theft, as well as the operators who actually kept the garment workers captive. She and other activists also petitioned for the workers to be able to stay in the United States under a visa program for those who cooperate with the government in criminal trials. This led to the creation of the T-Visa for victims of human trafficking.
She did a great job as Secretary of the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency, too!

Opponents criticized her leadership of California's unemployment agency during the COVID-19 pandemic, when over a million legitimate applicants had their claims delayed or frozen, while up to $31 billion was sent to fraudulent claimants (including to criminals belonging to national and international crime rings and inmates in the state's prison system).

Biden labor secretary nominee failed to enforce Hollywood law preventing pedophiles from working with child actors
Despite many not obtaining a permit, Su’s department didn’t refer any violations of the legislation to a prosecuting agency.

...   In a 2021 report from the Daily Caller News Foundation, before Su was confirmed to her current position, it was revealed that Su failed to enforce California law aimed at preventing pedophilia in Hollywood.

Su, during her time as California labor commissioner from 2011 to 2018, led an agency tasked with enforcing labor laws in the state including the Hollywood Child Protection Act, signed into law by then-Governor Jerry Brown in 2012 after a series of pedophile cases in the film industry.

The legislation created a permit system that mandated everyone who worked with child actors, including publicists, managers, and coaches, receive a Child Performer Services Permit from the labor department.

The labor commissioner’s office is responsible for approving applicants, who must submit fingerprints and pass a federal background check before their approval for the permit. Failure to obtain a permit could result in one year in jail and a $10,000 fine.

Despite many not obtaining a permit, Su’s department didn’t refer any violations of the legislation to a prosecuting agency.

According to a 2018 Deadline report, under Su’s command, not one Hollywood publicist representing child actors had obtained a permit, as well as dozens of managers, coaches, and photographers.  ...

Joe Biden Picks Migrant Rights Advocate Julie Su for Labor Sec.

Neil Munro 2 Mar 2023

President Joe Biden nominated migrant rights advocate Julie Su on Wednesday for the top job at the nation’s Department of Labor.

The decision spotlights his determination to open the national labor market to vast inflows of poor economic migrants. The inflows will prevent the tight labor markets that pressure employers to raise wages and also invest in high-tech, labor-saving machines.

“Every worker — every worker!– [must have] a voice and the ability to exercise their sacred right to organize,” Biden told a White House meeting of administration officials and progressives, plus union presidents.

Biden’s nomination of Julie Su comes just a few days after his deputies shrugged off the New York Times’ stunning report that roughly 200,00 foreign teenagers were working in often-brutal jobs around the nation.

The river of teen workers is just one part of the flood of roughly six million legal, quasi-legal, temporary, and illegal migrants who have been invited and welcomed by Biden since January 2021.

Isn't it astounding how every single person nominated by the "moderate" Lunchbucket Joe is a Marxist left-wing radical?
"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

Andy, you're right.

Perhaps they ought to rename the position from "Secretary of Labor" to "Secretary of Labor Advocacy and Activism"...
