Maybe my experience was more brutal than most, but my high school was a meat grinder. Thankfully I was a full blown geek and most of the ladies didn't want me. Which was good, because most of the popular ones got passed around like a fat joint at a stoner party and didn't seem to mind.
I knew girls that by the time they were sophomores had already banged a couple of dozen guys. That was mild compared to the stories I heard about some of the classes ahead of me.
There has, unfortunately, always been a coterie of girls - and boys - who were ultra precocious in high school - that's not the point here, the point is that such behaviour, which was traditionally limited to a small group, has been normalized by the culture and now its expected of all girls, and girls who don't go along get a lot more grief - including from each other - than they used to.
I was in high school in the 1980s, and my daughter just finished high school, and I can tell you that, even though for the most part I did not stick my nose into her business, there were incidents, both with her and with her friends, that were astounding (and not in a good way). To be perfectly honest, we were just as happy that her school was remote for 2020 and 2021, because it kept her away from some very bad apples and limited her exposure to social pressure.
This is not just a case of people rediscovering that high school can be a shit-fest. Things have gotten quantitatively worse since the 1980s, in large part because of liberal permissiveness and the ubiquity of social media. in the 1980s, unless one was in the very, very, very small percentage that had access to some crazy German porn movies, most pornography was no worse than Hustler. Nowadays, all it takes is one kid with a smartphone and parents who don't care, and some of the worst stuff on the internet - including hard, hard core BDSM and bestiality - gets circulated around the school halls. And what teenage boys see in the pornography they access online gets normalized into what they expect the girls in school to put out.
