Behind teen girls’ sky-high depression: Forced sex, social media

By Carrie Sheffield
February 24, 2023

Rampant sexual coercion, combined with social media and other pressures, is sowing the seeds of today’s record waves of crushing depression among teen girls, and a new report documents just how bad the situation has gotten: Per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study, teen girls are forced to have sex at the “highest level we’ve ever seen.”

More than half (57%) of girls felt persistently sad or hopeless in 2021, double the rate for teen boys (29%), while nearly one in three girls seriously considered suicide.

These alarming statistics shouldn’t surprise us, given that sexually active teens are more likely to be depressed and attempt suicide, and the confidence of teenage girls especially plummets after sexual activity.

Almost 15% of teen girls said they were forced to have sex, up from 12% in 2011 and the first jump since government researchers began tracking. Yet today’s Hollywood culture, run by liberal progressives, often encourages teenagers to embrace hookup sex, albeit “safe sex” with consent. Teen movies and film normalize teen sexual activity as desirable and marginalize virgins as awkward and hopelessly condemned.

Apparently the smartest generation since the dawn of time is going around the very same wheel that has existed since the 60's.

I read these very same kind of articles with this kind of content in the 80's.

When it comes to high school, Matthew Broderick's advice from Wargames is still relevant - the only way to win is not to play. Get in, get your grades, keep your true friends close, and get the hell out as unscathed as possible.

Maybe so, but the wider culture has become much more aggressive in, for lack of a better term, pimping out teenagers, particularly teenage girls, than it was back in the 1960s, 1970s, or 1980s.  The pimping is much stronger, much more pervasive, and much more difficult for a teenage girl to escape.

Maybe my experience was more brutal than most, but my high school was a meat grinder. Thankfully I was a full blown geek and most of the ladies didn't want me. Which was good, because most of the popular ones got passed around like a fat joint at a stoner party and didn't seem to mind.

I knew girls that by the time they were sophomores had already banged a couple of dozen guys. That was mild compared to the stories I heard about some of the classes ahead of me.

There has, unfortunately, always been a coterie of girls - and boys - who were ultra precocious in high school - that's not the point here, the point is that such behaviour, which was traditionally limited to a small group, has been normalized by the culture and now its expected of all girls, and girls who don't go along get a lot more grief - including from each other - than they used to.

I was in high school in the 1980s, and my daughter just finished high school, and I can tell you that, even though for the most part I did not stick my nose into her business, there were incidents, both with her and with her friends, that were astounding (and not in a good way).  To be perfectly honest, we were just as happy that her school was remote for 2020 and 2021, because it kept her away from some very bad apples and limited her exposure to social pressure.

This is not just a case of people rediscovering that high school can be a shit-fest.  Things have gotten quantitatively worse since the 1980s, in large part because of liberal permissiveness and the ubiquity of social media.  in the 1980s, unless one was in the very, very, very small percentage that had access to some crazy German porn movies, most pornography was no worse than Hustler.  Nowadays, all it takes is one kid with a smartphone and parents who don't care, and some of the worst stuff on the internet - including hard, hard core BDSM and bestiality - gets circulated around the school halls.  And what teenage boys see in the pornography they access online gets normalized into what they expect the girls in school to put out.

For the past few decades, it seems, there's been a push in the public schools to teach young girls about self-esteem - you're the best, you're beautiful, girl power, and the like. But few of the girls seem to believe it. They still let social media and mean kids push them around, humiliate them, coerce them and abuse them.

In the gray area - there are always grey areas in life.  Socially coerced, as in getting bullied by everyone else, including your "friends" if you haven't done "it" yet, even if personally you don't want to.

The pro-abortion crowd bears some responsibility, too.  The old-fashioned notion that women alone have control over their bodies has been superfluously diluted and replaced with abortion now being the sole definition of bodily control, and that women should now mimic the worst sexual characteristics of men.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

-Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."

-Ayn Rand-

Yes, they bear some share of responsibility, particularly those radicals who have marketed abortion as a panacea, or an alternative means of discretionary birth control.

But the push to normalize a pornographic version of animal house as the new social standard has been going on for decades now; it's only now that it's bearing its worst fruits.

Exactly. We don't ground girls today, all that huff and puff just makes them more fragile, hyper-sensitive, and hyper-emotional. Predatory guys in particular will take advantage of that.

She's your adolescent dream,
Schoolboy stuff, a sticky sweet romance.
And she makes you want to scream,
Wishing you could get inside her pants.
So, you fantasize away.
And while you're squeezing her, you thought you heard her saying...

"Good girls don't,
Good girls don't,
Good girls don't, but I do."
