US can’t keep up with China’s warship building, Navy Secretary says
Story by Brad Lendon • 3h ago

China’s navy has significant advantages over its US rival, including a bigger fleet and greater shipbuilding capacity, as Beijing seeks to project its power across the oceans, the head of the United States Navy said Tuesday.

Speaking at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, US Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro said China “consistently attempts to violate the maritime sovereignty and economic well-being of other nations including our allies in the South China Sea and elsewhere.”

“They got a larger fleet now so they’re deploying that fleet globally,” he said, adding that Washington must upgrade the US fleet in response.

“We do need a larger Navy, we do need more ships in the future, more modern ships in the future, in particular that can meet that threat,” he said.

We may not be able to compete with China militarily but can take care of all illegal immigrants who sneak across the border, by golly!

We are drowning in debt.

I am leaning more toward can't than won't.

Won't.   Reagan pushed for a 600-ship navy with 15 carriers back in the 80s.  Democrats have been doing everything to block it ever since.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

No argument that the dims are obstructionist in this matter, but the economic dynamics of committing mass capital toward miltiary outlays is a lot different now than when RWR ran the show.  At his midpoint the Debt to GDP ratio was 35%.   Now it is in the neighborhood of 140%-150%.

The honest truth is we don't have that capital right now, unless we want to deal with the economic consequences.

It comes down to a choice.  Either spend 6% of GDP on defense and 12% on government.  Or spend < 3% of GDP on defense and 23% of GDP on government while running up massive debt which is what we are doing now.  I choose option 1.

Same here.  Now successfully talk the 535 occupying seats in DC of the same.....   And good luck!!!!!!   :silly:

YUP!

On the bright side, individual creativity has been punished for over a thousand years in China, so they are the least creative people on earth.

I seem to recall they bought an aircraft carrier from the Russians 10+ years ago,and it is still in their harbor after the Russians delivered it to them.

Pretty much every weapon they have was bought from the Russians.

Not to fear, though. The DNC has made sure that Chinese "students" can get visas to come to America and enter our colleges in order to bring themselves up to date after learning how to think.

One way they do this is by buying up all the text books they can find,as well as all the research  papers they can get their hands on,and mail them back to China VIA USPS.

All they really need do is hand all that off in electronic form to the nearest embassy or go-between, and they don't even have to pay postage.

Back when I was a letter carrier,I complained to the postal inspectors about the Chinese students on my route that were attending the local college were mailing back big boxes of material to China.

I was told to mind my own business because  they were doing nothing illegal.

As the ol' redneck saying goes...It ain't illegal if'n you don't get caught.

This has been going on since the guidance package disappeared out of that rocket Loral was helping them build that crashed--during the Clinton Administration, if not before.

BTW,there were newspaper reports  back then commenting on how ALL those "exchange students that are going to change the Chinese aggression after learning about life in America" were actually officers in the PLA. That was an actual requirement for them to be allowed to come here to attend colleges.

Sure they were. They picked their best and brightest to come over here, pick brains and earn advanced degrees. If they got any notions about defecting, they had the relatives back home for collateral.

LMAO, you left out equity.  We have equity as a primary focus for everything, from soup to nuts and everything in between.  And the good news is that our military will have battery powered vehicles.  They will be so much better on the field of battle.  When their batteries have been exhausted, it will only take 8-12 hours for them to charge up.  Not like those gas guzzling combustion engines that can be filled in what, 3-4 minutes from an empty tank.  Ah yes, Biden has all the answers!

That was the Varyag.  The ChiComs lied when they bought the hulk, saying that they planned to turn it into a floating casino.

Thanks for that post!

I don't remember being aware of any of that.

My old friend Jeff Head had a source in Dalian who sent him all those photos over a period of several years as the Varyag was being refitted.  He passed away in 2021 but he left his website behind for those of us who were still interested in the building of the ChiComs blue water fleet.
