When I got out of the Army, I got set up on a blind double date by a friend of mine with a girl that was a friend of his girlfriend. I was in my early 20s at the time and not dating anybody so I went. We saw movie and then we went back to my friends house with the girls and picked up some beer to watch movies.
During the evening, one of the girls asked the other one about an assignment that was due Monday and the other girl responded that she didn’t even start on it. I asked if they were going to the local university or the local vocational school. They responded that they were actually students at the local high school. I started asking my date how old she was and it turned out that she was one month shy of 16. I immediately left. The weird part about that was is the guy who set me up with her. His girlfriend was the same age and he was three years older than me.
I even have a more scarier example....
Back when I was 19 (about 1976), I was helping this High School Band, and an attractive young lady accosted me at their game, and said she would come see me after the college game I performed in band (the next night). I kind of blew it off, thinking , you know,,,,, yeah sure.
Well she did show up, and she talked me into taking her to one of the local watering holes, where she subsequently downed two Hurricanes (In 10 minutes, and she weighed no more than 100 lbs.). Well after about 20 minutes, she fully passed out, and I had to carry her out of the establishment like a sack of potatoes.
So there is this young high school girl totally passed out in my car, its 1 AM, and I don't know where she lives, really who she is. When I finally rouse her by 3AM, and get some coffee down her, she confesses that she is only 14. At that point I am at the point of panicking. Finally, by 5AM, she's gets enough sobriety to direct me to one of her friend's house, dropped her off, and I thankfully speed away.
Needless to say, the next few weeks I was looking behind my shoulder in paranoia for the Law. Lesson learned, that I hope every young guy gets. This is maybe the most scared I ever was in my life.
