Mysteriously Changing passwords

Am I the only one to suddenly try to log on to a web site,and be told the password I have stored on my harddrive and have used for 10 plus years,suddenly doesn't work and I am required to create a new password?

How is it even possible for this to happen?

I CAN'T be the only one going through this,can I?

Depends on the website and on whether the site has implemented a policy requiring users to change passwords periodically.
