3 active-duty Marines arrested for participating in Jan. 6 riot at the US Capitol

Three active-duty Marines were arrested this week on charges they illegally entered the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6 riot more than two years ago with a throng of then-President Donald Trump’s supporters, according to federal court documents.

The Marines — Sgt. Joshua Abate, Sgt. Dodge Dale Hellonen and Cpl. Micah Coomer — spent about an hour inside the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, as the mob sought to halt certification of Joe Biden’s presidential victory by Congress, according to the court documents dated Jan. 17. The three Marines face four misdemeanor charges each — two counts of disorderly conduct, one count of knowingly entering a restricted building, and one count of parading, demonstrating or picketing in the Capitol.

FBI investigators identified the three Marines using public and private social media posts and phone and military records, according to the court documents. Coomer posted images showing them participating in the insurrection, in which he wrote he was “Glad to be a part of history,” federal investigators said. In private social media posts obtained via a search warrant, Coomer voiced support for a “Civil War 2,” investigators said.

Abate admitted last year during a security clearance interview that he entered the Capitol during the riot with two “buddies,” according to the court documents. He told the interviewers that “he heard how the event was being portrayed negatively and decided that he should not tell anybody about going into the U.S. Capitol Building,” according to the documents.  ...

Apparently, it's now illegal to express the opinion that the election of 2020 was unfair and fraudulent.

... Coomer, of Indiana, is stationed in Southern California’s Camp Pendleton; Abate, of Virginia, is at Fort Meade in Maryland; and Hellonen, of Michigan, is stationed at North Carolina’s Camp Lejeune, according to the Marines.

The men spent about 52 minutes inside the Capitol, authorities say. At one point while in the rotunda, they put a red “Make American Great Again” hat on a statue to take pictures with it, according to court papers. Hellonen was carrying a “Don’t Tread on Me” flag, authorities said.

Coomer posted photos on Instagram that appeared to be taken inside the Capitol with the caption “Glad to be apart of history,” according to court documents. Days after the 2020 election, he and another person discussed over Instagram message how he believed the election was rigged.

And in late January 2021, he told another person in a message that “everything in this country is corrupt.”  ...

Wow, I had no idea it was this egregious.  They may be looking at the death penalty here.

By their leisurely stance, the Capitol Police in this photo clearly did not believe a crime was taking place or else they would have taken action.



I would call every single one of them as witness to testify why they did nothing to stop a crime taking place right in front of them.

The FBI wasted 16 months hunting down these three active duty Marines so they could charge them with misdemeanors. Nowhere near a commensurate effort to track down Antifa rioters who terrorized cities for months before the 2020 election. Or criminals illegally crossing the border
