@Slide Rule I don't know about used cars, but I just checked the price on new 4x4 Jeep cars with a PU bed (can't remember what they call them) because a couple up the road from me already had new "his and her" Jeep 4dr "cars" they bought right after they bought the lot and had a new modular home and garage built/put up.
Rode past their house last week-end,and they now have "matching his and her" Jeep 4x4 pickups" in slightly different shades of yellow for driving on weekends when they don't feel like driving their "old jeeps".
Yeah, they each also have 2 used economy cars of some sort they use to drive back and forth to work.
I KNEW they were going to be expensive, but I was actually shocked to see the sticker price on them EACH was $84,400 "ON SALE"!
They also have two children in elementary school.
Somehow,I suspect those children will end up living in a homeless shelter before they get out of school.
After all, when the economy collapses and the food lines start appearing, who are you going to sell them to when nobody but the wealthy have any money, and the wealthy that wants them already has them?
BTW,in the spirit of full-disclosure,I bought a new Toyota Camry last year when my $300 Ranger pu bit the dust and it was going to cost me right at 3 grand for a new motor and additional "needs",as well as a couple of weeks waiting for the new engine to come in and get the swap made. I was driving 45 miles 1 way 3 times a week to a wound clinic to get my leg treated to keep it from being amputated, and there was no way I could afford to miss those appointments,so I bit the bullet and bought a new car. Didn't want to do it then, and am not happy about it even now,but I had no choice.
IIRC,I paid $26,600 for the Camry, out the door. Damn thing gets between 40 and 53 MPG if I burn Premium gas in it,though, depending on how much is open road and how much is city driving with red lights. Best I ever got with the 4 cylinder Ranger was around 20 mpg.
Still miss the Ranger, though. There is a lot to be said for having a PU you can park anywhere and leave the keys in it,and nobody will steal it.
