I know that historically,this has been the claim,but I just don't believe it. The Arabs were roamers and traders,and they stole it from some culture they came into contact with.
The Persians were instrumental in the development of mathematics.
The history is well-developed, and can be read from numerous sources, so I see no reason to doubt it.
To be perfectly honest, in many worldly ways, the muslims who conquered Jerusalem were more advanced than the Christians who came after to liberate Jerusalem, for example.
Many developments came back to Europe that way, with the returning crusaders.
