The US National Guard is sending cybersecurity units into 14 states ahead of the midterm elections as a measure, they claim, to combat potential and presumed digital threats aimed at election officials.

According to ZeroHedge, the commander of the Washington Air National Guard, Brigadier General Gent Welsh said, "If you don’t have a cyber unit in your state you’re not in a good position to help them protect elections." ...

The states in which the National Guard will be activated are Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Louisiana, North Carolina, New Mexico, New York, Washington, West Virginia, Iowa, and the battleground states Pennsylvania and Arizona.

General Welsh said that having these units around "does add an air of credibility to what’s out there" because the National Guard is "one of the most trusted institutions in the United States." ...

WV? Why, because its elections - overseen by a former Army colonel Republican Secretary of State - have been completely spotless the past several years? There's absolutely no comparison between WV and utterly corrupt states like PA or NY.

Well, if they don't have a 'mix' of states, then they'd be accused of tampering with the election themselves or just targeting the ones that we know were involved in the steal.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Cyber security, eh? Maybe we should go back to paper ballots, if the electronic voting machines are so susceptible to interference.

More Than a Dozen States Have Activated the National Guard to Secure Midterm Elections
Other states can request help, but some leaders say more capacity is needed.

NATIONAL GUARD CYBER ELECTION SECURITY

At least 14 states have spun up their National Guard units to ward off cyber attacks on the national election that concludes tomorrow, but others have not.

North Carolina is one of the states that has.

“This year, we're in place to ensure that if there's any assistance that's needed, we're working proactively with our state board of elections, not just on the day of elections, but really prior to to do security analysis checks and look into the network to make sure it's as secure as possible,” Maj. Gen. Marvin Hunt, adjutant general for North Carolina’s National Guard, told reporters Friday. “We're really that third party that comes in—it's just assisting them—to give them a different look. So that on election day, we can all have confidence in our election systems.”

Hunt said his cyber team is always working, but will “surge during the election to ensure that we have 24-hour coverage throughout this whole process.”

The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.

Not a bad idea.
