Harris to announce $13B from Democratic bill for home energy upgrades

Vice President Kamala Harris will travel to Boston on Wednesday to announce more than $13 billion in new federal programs and funds to help lower energy costs for households this winter.

The $13 billion, provided through the Inflation Reduction Act, will fund a grab bag of energy efficiency, home, and electrification upgrades to help people “weatherize” their homes for winter and assist low-income families with heating costs.

This includes providing direct consumer rebates for installations of heat pumps, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems, and water heaters, as well as for upgrading electrical wires.

The funds will also provide direct assistance to help with high heating costs through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP.

The money “will enable up to 1.6 million homes to make critical upgrades to their homes installing up to 500,000 heat pumps,” a senior administration official said Tuesday in a call previewing Harris’s announcement.

Altogether, White House officials said the Department of Energy estimates the direct consumer rebates will save consumers $1 billion in energy costs annually.

It is my understanding that Heat Pump are ineffective in cold weather climates like the NE.

We have a heat pump... it works fairly well even in bitter cold, although not as good as oil/gas etc. The newer models have work arounds for bitter cold climates. 99% of the time, I love the thing.

All heat pumps are is reverse air conditioners. If you don't mind paying ridiculous electric bills heat pump will work.

Our heat pump works fine until it get below 30 degrees, then it just runs and runs and runs... the air in the house get really dry.  I tun the furnace over to emergency heat which bypasses the heat pump for the occasional days the temps get low.  Not to bad on the electric bill and it keeps my sinuses from drying out..

If the federal government allowed more drilling and mining for so-called fossil fuels, increasing the supply and availability thereof to consumers, that kinda might lower energy costs.

Pretty much how mine works.  When the temp gets too low the emergency heat kicks on.  Emergency heat is an electric element. When that kicks in the electric bill hits the roof.   Might as well turn your oven one to heat your house.

This comes to over $8k per household.  For the sake of argument, lets say this results in a $40 per month savings in energy costs.  That means it will take 17 years to break even.

There have already been plenty of electrical black-outs causing black-out havoc, so now the destroy America first democrats want us all to use more electricity causing more catastrophic black-outs, forcing electrical shortages and massive price hikes.  Must be another agenda crisis inventing going on.  Democrat voters, i hope they ram this down your throats.
