Two Newark police officers were shot by a sniper Tuesday, police and law enforcement sources said.
The officers were struck by gunfire around 2 p.m. when a gunman fired a rifle from an elevated position, police sources said. The officers appear to have been serving a search warrant when the gunman opened fire, reported ABC7.
“All we can confirm is that there was an incident,” the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement. “Two officers are being treated at a local hospital and it is still a very active scene.”
