Report– NYC Latino Grocers Raising $70K for Lee Zeldin After History of Voting Democrat

Amy Furr 31 Oct 2022

A coalition of mainly Latino supermarket owners in New York City are reportedly showing support for Republican gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin after having endured rampant shoplifting.

The coalition is raising $70,000 to back Zeldin as the election swiftly approaches, the New York Post reported Monday.

Seventy entrepreneurs operating supermarkets including Foodtown, Fine Fare, and Met Foods, are reportedly giving $1,000 each to Zeldin during a fundraiser Monday in Queens, the outlet said.

The congressman has vowed to go hard against criminals who target grocers. It is a message that has not fallen on deaf ears, according to Nelson Eusebio, the leader of government relations for the National Supermarket Association.

“These are Hispanic supermarket owners who have previously voted with the Democrats,” he said during an interview with the outlet, adding they have become weary of the situation and wanted results.

“We are frustrated and tired of Democrats saying that bail reform has not affected crime negatively,” Carlos Collado, a Democrat who owns a pair of supermarkets in the Bronx, said, adding, “We are seeing a different reality.”

If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

-Dwight Eisenhower-

Hochul for some reason seems to struggle very badly whenever any questions regarding crime is brought up. I saw an interview were she was asked if she supported NY no bail laws and she couldn’t answer that simple yes or no answer.

I don’t believe that she likes crime and supports criminals. I think she’s crippled by that liberal thinking that criminals are misunderstood members of society and  punishing them just doesn’t work
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

As you all know, Brooklyn is not a republican hot bed.  But, I’m seeing lots of “Zeldin for governor” lawn and window signs here, and a big goose egg for Hochul.

I might be wrong, but doesn’t this group always vote for the conservative candidate anyways?

Only in recent years have they moved towards the republicans.  Their past voting patterns were majority democrats (hold overs from the FDR coalition).

I've been driving back and forth between Nassau County and Suffolk County the last two weekends, mostly on 25a, and I've seen a surprisingly large number of Zeldin signs, and precious few Hochul signs.  I'm a little surprised.

Wow.  God wants me to be vaccinated?  Don't you first have to come up with a vaccine?
