Utah: Mike Lee Leads Evan McMullin by Ten Points One Week from the Election

Sean Moran 31 Oct 2022

Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) leads Never Trumper independent Senate candidate Evan McMullin by ten points in Utah’s United States Senate race, according to a poll released on Monday.

Emerson College released a survey of very likely Utah voters, which found 49 percent support Lee, while McMullin holds 39 percent. Four percent support Libertarian candidate James Arthur Hansen, and four percent remain undecided.

When Emerson accounted for which way undecided voters are leaning, Lee continued to lead McMullin 50 to 40 percent.

Spencer Kimball, the executive director of Emerson College Polling, said, “Lee holds the majority of support among Republican voters, leading McMullin 71% to 23%, whereas McMullin holds a ten-point lead among independent voters, leading 46% to 36% and among Democratic voters 71% to 6%.”

“McMullin’s support is strongest among voters under 35 at 41%, whereas Lee holds the majority of support among voters over 50 with 57%,” he continued.

The poll also found that Lee holds higher favorability ratings than McMullin.

Fifty-two percent of voters view Lee favorably, and 44 percent have an unfavorable view of Utah’s senior senator.

Forty-one percent of voters view McMullin favorably and 47 percent view him unfavorably.

Forty-seven percent of Utah voters labeled the economy their top issue, 12 percent said “threats to democracy” were their top issue, and ten percent labeled abortion access as their top issue.

The poll follows Matt Sandgren, former chief of staff for the late Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT), endorsing Lee’s reelection bid.

Former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) also campaigned with Lee, saying that Utahns need to reelect Lee to stop Democrat “warmongers” from pushing America closer to nuclear war with Russia.

While McMullin has labeled himself an independent, he has frequently campaigned with Democrats and leftist activists such as Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT) and Alyssa Milano.

The Emerson College of Polling survey contacted 825 very likely Utah voters between October 25 and 28. It has a 3.3 percent margin of error.

This is a seat that I've been concerned about. We'll see if Lee keeps it.
Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Democrats, Big Tech Flood Utah with Millions to Unseat Mike Lee

Democrats and Silicon Valley leaders are flooding Utah with millions of dollars to boost Never Trumper Evan McMullin’s bid to unseat Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT).

The most active outside group in the Utah Senate race, according to the Associated Press, is the pro-McMullin super Pac, Put Utah First, which has spent $5.1 million in 2022, including $3 million from October 1 to 19.

Put Utah First’s primary donor is Blake Muray, the former CEO of the financial services technology Divvy. Murray is just one of the Utah technology leaders backing McMullin. Put Utah First has also received $250,000 from American Bridge’s political action committee (PAC), a leading Democrat PAC.

Republican Accountability PAC, which is also running ads against Senate Republican candidates Herschel Walker and J.D. Vance, donated $100,000 to Put Utah First.

In an ironic twist, Put Utah First has attacked Lee for allegedly taking donations from special interest groups while not mentioning their own funding, which comes from Democrat PACs, tech executives, and others.

Kelsey Koenen Witt, McMullin’s campaign spokesperson, took the report to mean that McMullin has built a diverse coalition.

“We’re proud of the cross-partisan coalition we’ve built to unite Utahns and solve the mounting problems our state and our country face,” the spokesperson explained. “It is a lie from the Lee campaign and his allies that the Democratic Party is financially supporting Evan.”

In contrast to McMullin, conservative groups and other groups such as Americans for Prosperity, the Consumer Technology Associations, Liberty Champions PAC, and Crypto Freedom, a pro-Bitcoin PAC affiliated with the Club for Growth, have backed Lee’s reelection bid.

The Club for Growth has spent more than $8 million to block McMullin’s mission to oust Lee.

David McIntosh, the leader of Club for Growth Action, said, “We think it’s important that voters in Utah know it’s a clear choice between Mike Lee, a Republican and a conservative, and Evan McMullin.”

Lee has accused McMullin of feeding the “Democrat industrial complex.” McMullin uses the Democrat fundraising tool ActBlue, instead of the Republican alternative, WinRed. He has also paid Democrat operatives $1.6 million.
