John Fetterman’s wife slams NBC reporter as ‘ableist,’ wants network apology after husband’s interview

Gisele Fetterman slammed an NBC reporter as “ableist” on Monday, a week after her stroke survivor husband, Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, gave an interview to the network with the help of a closed captioning system.

The Democrat Fetterman is in the middle of a heated campaign to be Pennsylvania’s next senator with celbrity heart surgeon and former TV show host Dr. Mehmet Oz.

His interview with NBC News’ Dasha Burns last week revealed the extent of auditory processing issues that have lingered since the 53-year-old’s stroke in May.

Afterwards, Oz said Pennsylvanians “deserve better” than having Fetterman in the Senate due to his apparent deficit.

“I don’t think there’s closed captioning on the floor of the Senate, and maybe he doesn’t need closed captioning when he’s actually moving around,” Oz told Fox Business Network’s Maria Bartiromo. “But maybe he does. Again, lots of question marks, and voters deserve better.”

Gisele Fetterman took issue with a comment from Burns while promoting the interview in which she told viewers that it seemed like the senate candidate couldn’t follow along with small-talk before the interview, before the closed captioning system was up and running.

“If this happened in a school, if this was a child that was ableist towards another child or a teacher, there would’ve been issues stated. There would have been new training done,” Gisele Fetterman told the Independent.

“What is being done at the media after a reporter came out so openly ableist towards a person? I think shocked and appalled, but sadly not surprised. I know there’s still so much to do, but it would be great to see some accountability, to actually see real change,” she added.

Exactly...I want to know if he wins this seat will he actually go to DC and participate or will he stay at home and do computer face time in his black hoodie at the kitchen table...he can't understand/comprehend the spoken word so he will need some device to interpret what is being said unless he's taking the little wifey with him everywhere

John Fetterman’s Radical Marxist Wife Is the REAL Play They’re Making for the Senate
Looking ahead at the possibility of having a mentally impaired Senator in John Fetterman, some believe Democrats are crazy. In reality, the have a very ugly plan.

Atlantic article essentially confirms NBC report that John Fetterman struggles with small talk
'Fetterman may not be able to do small talk,' Elaine Godfrey wrote

By Brian Flood | Fox News

An article in The Atlantic essentially confirmed NBC journalist Dasha Burns’ widely disputed claim that Pennsylvania Democratic Senate candidate John Fetterman appears to have problems making conversation without the use of closed captioning, noting he had difficulty responding "meaningfully" to voter questions.

In a Sunday piece headlined, "Do Voters Care About John Fetterman’s Stroke?," Atlantic staff writer Elaine Godfrey noted that Fetterman "still struggles to process the words that he hears, and sometimes he can’t quite express what he means" five months after he suffered a stroke.

She also noted that his wife Gisele, who a Rolling Stone writer called a "de facto" candidate last week, generally led interactions with voters.

"Fetterman sounds a lot more like his old self now than he did in August, when he first returned to the campaign trail. But he still stumbles in his speech. At a rally I attended outside Philadelphia last weekend, he delivered a few applause lines and phrases that were difficult to understand; occasionally, the audience would answer with tentative claps. After the event, Fetterman did not entertain questions from reporters, and seemed unable to respond all that meaningfully to on-the-fly comments from voters; his wife, Gisele, appeared to be the one leading those interactions," Godfrey wrote. "But while Fetterman may not be able to do small talk, he is able to participate in interviews where he can use real-time closed-captioning, a live transcription of questions appearing on his laptop."
