L.A. City Council Leaders Apologize for Racist Slurs Against Black Child; ‘Negrito,’ ‘Monkey’

Joel B. Pollak 9 Oct 2022 Washington, DC

Los Angeles City Council President Nury Martinez and Councilmember Kevin de Léon — the former president pro tem of the California State Senate — apologized Sunday for a conversation including racial slurs against the black child of a white colleague.

NBC Los Angeles reported:

Los Angeles City Council President Nury Martinez and Councilman Kevin de León apologized Sunday for an attack on colleague Mike Bonin during a recorded conversation in October 2021 that included racist slurs by Martinez directed at Bonin’s young son.

    …

Martinez also called the child “ese changuito,” Spanish for “that little monkey.”

    …

“Su negrito, like on the side,” Martinez added, using a Spanish term for a Black person that’s considered demeaning by many.

De Léon, who ran for mayor but lost in the primary, did not object to the racial slurs, and mocked Bonin over his son.

In a statement on behalf of his family, Bonin condemned the language used by Martinez and De Léon, and demanded Martinez resign:

“No child should ever be subjected to such racism, mean and dehumanizing comments,” he said of the words used by his fellow Democrats.

Bonin is not running for reelection to a third term; a left-wing “progressive,” he clashed frequently with constituents and with other civic leaders, especially over the issue of homelessness on the west side of the city.

Democrats being Democrats.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

-Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."

BREAKING: Nury Martinez Resigns Post as LA City Council President After Leaked Audio of Racist, Homophobic Slurs Surfaces
By Jennifer Van Laar | 2:21 PM on October 10, 2022

On Sunday, the Los Angeles Times published a bombshell story about racist and homophobic slurs caught on an audio recording of a 2021 meeting between LA City Council President Nury Martinez, LA City Council members Kevin de Leon and Gil Cedillo, and LA Labor Federation President Ron Herrera. The meeting’s topic was proposed redistricting maps for the LA City Council and was held at LA Labor Federation’s offices, according to an update to the LA Times article. Just over 24 hours later, Martinez has resigned her post as Council President, but not her seat on the council.

Martinez issued a statement making the announcement:

“I ask for forgiveness from my colleagues and from the residents of this city that I love so much. In the end, it is not my apologies that matter most; it will be the actions I take from this day forward. I hope that you will give me the opportunity to make amends. Therefore, effective immediately I am resigning as President of the Los Angeles City Council.”

Liberal Media Downplays That Disgraced LA City Council President Is A Democrat

The liberal media downplayed former Los Angeles Council President Nury Martinez’s Democratic affiliation after she resigned Monday over her racist remarks.

Martinez, a Latina Democrat, said during an Oct. 2021 meeting that a white councilman, Mike Bonin, is treating his black son as an “accessory” and compared the child to a monkey, according to leaked audio. She then said that the child’s parents are treating him “like a little white kid” who needed a “beatdown” over his behavior at the Martin Luther King Day parade.

The corporate media covered her racist remarks, but either vaguely mentioned or ignored that Martinez and the two fellow council members caught on recording are Democrats. The Los Angeles Times, the outlet that initially broke the story Sunday, did not once report on the her political affiliation. It only mentioned her ethnicity.

A CNN article titled “Los Angeles City Council president resigns from leadership role after audio leaked of her racist remarks” omitted her party. The fifth paragraph of NBC News’ first report titled “Los Angeles City Council president steps down from leadership role after leak of racist comments,” mentioned that the audio captured a meeting full of Latino Democrats.

The Washington Post and the New York Times briefly mentioned the political affiliation of Martinez and the two council members heard in the audio, Gil Cedillo and Kevin de León, in addition to a fourth individual, Los Angeles County Federation of Labor President Ron Herrera. After mentioning their political affiliation once, the Times article went into an in-depth discussion about their Latino heritage and the group’s complaints about representation in the city. The Post article included the council members’ party affiliation next to their name.

CNN’s “Inside Politics with John King” dedicated an entire segment to criticizing Republicans for their remarks that were interpreted as racist. They immediately took a stab at Republican Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville for saying that Democrats support reparations because “the people who do crime are owed that” and one commentator went into depth of how black people do not feel represented by the Republican Party.

Almost by definition, a leftist is a bigot.
